Gary~ I think you need to download the latest Beta of version 10, then use the Help drop down menu in the program to get the upgrade.

If you had a registered version 9 installed on your system before DLing the latest ver10 beta, then you will have the option to buy ver10 for the upgrade price of $10.

I am pretty sure this is what you need to do but have not done it myself yet. Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

Good Luck

Thanks, I will try that.  I wanted v10, but am not really ready to run it full time.  Sounds like one has to commit from the get go.

So v10 does not alter the database in any way?  Can I share the database on two different computers one running 9.1 and one running 10.
I want to get to the point where I can run from the computer to the entertainment center ( I do that now for music) but also include the TV so as to be able to select and add to playlist on the fly to play over stereo and video.  Not sure what to use as yet, any ideas?

Never tried sharing the database between 2 computers..

And as far as changing anything... All I can tell you is, I have not had any problems.

Not recommended.  It may work now, but will probably stop working at some point in the development of 10.

So if i try v10 then decide to revert to 9.1 I'm stuck?  Do you think there is risk in corrupting my database or even worse corrputing the mp3 files if I use the beta.  I have some tollerance for crashed, but not destroying my mp3 collection.

Thanks!

I was able to load 10 then revert a few times with no problems.

If you have xp or ME you can revert your drive if anything weird happens.

thanks - guess I'm concerned about ripping and using for a couple of weeks then noticing that my database is foobar or rips are bad.  that has happend in the past.  I know its a beta risk, but "beta" can mean lots of things from garbage pre-alpha, to highly reliable pre Release Candidate.

just trying to get a sense of risk.

Do you have a V9 Lic or a V8 Licence?
The 12.99 is given to V8 users.

About the Decline... Maybe start a new thread or try again...

Are you using Internet Explorer?

This board...
You didn't upgrade from MJ8?

Credit cards get declined.  It isn't always for good reason, but there is nothing we can do.  Try again or try another card.

The $12.99 means that the license is a V8 license.  It works with V9.

OK, 2 credit cards declined.  I think the app is broken.  still don't understand why it's not $10, but not worth the argument.  I thought i upgraded to V. 9 from 8!

thx,

JimH-
I tried to upgrade last night, and looking at my confirmation email, I was charged the full $40 for it.  I don't know what I did wrong, but I'd be happy to supply any info you may need to fix this.
Do you want my reg number?  Credit Card?  I was a register 9 user, and am now a registered 10 user- I just didn't get the upgrade price.
Any help would be appreciated- thanks.

Well, I see several asking the question, but no clear reply.  I have MC9 (registered), I want to upgrade to the MC10 Beta to help in testing and get the affordable upgrade cost of $10.00.  But how?!
Only option I can get to is $26.98 (Upgrade price) on, https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/buy.cgi?productid=16&upgradefrom=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Is the offer over?

Credit cards get declined.  It isn't always for good reason, but there is nothing we can do.  Try again or try another card.

The $12.99 means that the license is a V8 license.  It works with V9.

Also retailers sometimes receive return codes from their bankers that are not actual declines (but not accepts either) e.g. it might be a code to indicate that the card issuing bank (your bank) is offline so the retailer's bank (e.g. JRiver's bank) is unable to authorise the transaction until later.  Sometimes this incorrectly gets translated as 'the bank has declined the transaction' and causes a lot of unfair complaints to banks as it's just the retailer or the retailer's banks that are not passing on the true 'reason' to the cardholder.

Additionally most credit card companies have special rules covering CNP transactions (Cardholder Not Present) and Internet transactions.  The problem with these is that it's not feasible for the bank to do what it might do if you were conducting the transaction in person at a store - which might be to ask some additional security questions if they feel that the transaction is 'out of character'.  Therefore, CNP or internet transactions are more likely to be declined as a safeguard to you and the bank.

So - sometimes it's the retailers not properly interpreting and passing on the true reason code and sometimes it's the banks trying to protect you against fraud.

I'm not suggesting that JRiver are acting improperly - I'm sure that's not the case.  This is just general information for those that are interested.

Well I'm upset enough that I went out and registered for the board.  >:(

I bought MC9 a few months back.  I spent a bunch of time here wading through the forum as a lurker to figure out the best way to accomplish what I needed to do.  Once that was done, I went on my merry way to compile and use my library.  I picked up an iPod for Christmas and came back last night to figure out how to best use my iPod w/MC.  Well lo and behold there's a new version of MC (10) and I've now missed out (by a week or so) on the upgrade price?!

I often used the "check for update" on MC9 to make sure I was up to date, and was never notified that an upgrade to V10 was even a possibility, nor did I ever receive *any* email notice that there was a promotion to upgrade to V10 at a reduced price.  FWIW (I recognize I'm only one angry customer) it just strikes me as bad business to offer upgrade pricing to existing (read loyal) users, but only those who read the board daily.  I've used many other products from HW (Matrox, Pinnacle) to SW (Adobe, Pinnacle, ok...this list is endless) and as long as I have registered w/my current email address I've *always* been notified of promotional pricing as an existing customer.

I think you dropped the ball on this one, and you certainly alienated this MC customer.

My $.o2,

Brian

Hi Brian,

V10 has not been officially released yet, that's why you didn't receive notification about it.

The special cheap upgrade price was to encourage beta-testing, and so we only announced it here.

There's still a cheaper-than-full-price upgrade price for v8 and v9 users.

Brian,
We're just trying to do our jobs well.

We don't advertise or promote software until we think it's solid enough to withstand a heavy load.

I'm sorry it wasn't satisfactory.
