Title: Media Jukebox 8.0.392
Post by: Nikolay on November 26, 2002, 09:12:34 am
Please Note: Support for TV and DVD playback has been removed from this build.

If you want TV or DVD, and if you have a version 8 license, you can switch to Media Center at no extra cost if you do it before December 1.

A new build of Media Jukebox is available:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox80392.exe

NOTE: Help file will be updated on Monday, December 2.

History:
1. Fixed: Downloading image from internet was not working.
2. NEW: If MJ 8.0 detects MJ 9.0 database it will prompt to restore backed up version of MJ 8.0 database file.
3. Fixed: CD Labeler was failing to run on some PCs.
4. NEW: Added additional error information to MJ registration.
5. NEW: Added "Listening to" button to toolbar.
6. Changed: TV and DVD playback has been removed.

Nik,

When you say "DVD playback has been removed from this build"...you literally mean playback only. Will the DVD drive still show up under CD, DVD....? Reason I ask is I plan on picking up an external Sony DVD combo drive for archiving. I want to access (from MJ) as I would an RW drive. Thanks.

10-27

PS: I haven't installed 392 yet to see for myself.

It's only playback.  You could read and write it as the CD drive.

Jim,

Don't Want To Be Mean, But I Have One Question.
Is There Ever Going To Be Support For Streaming Album Covers In Ver8...I Really Don't Like Ver9 And See No Forseeable Upgrade In My Future. Ver7 I Actually Really Liked, But The Media Server In Ver8 Is Really The Nuts, The Only Thing That For Me Is Missing Is The Streaming Covers. MJ8 Works For Me Is Stable For Me And Is Everything That I Need.
Appreciate Your Listening To Me On This
Have A Great Thanksgiving

Nikolay Sokratov, you say that "if you want TV or DVD, and if you have a version 8 license, you can switch to Media Center at no extra cost if you do it before December 1."

I'm sorry if I sound stupid, but does this mean that I have to convert the lisence in any way? I tried looking at the buy faq, but it only said that lisences bought before Dec. 1 would give the upgrade. In other words: Do you mean that I have to install v9 before the first, or can I use my v 8 for a while longer and then switch to v 9 and still get TV and DVD? It's really TV  I'm after, DVD is not a big problem since I use ZoomPlayer for that.  8)

When you're playing something it copies the info to the Windows Clipboard, so you can paste it back like this:

Listening to: 'How Sweet It Is (to be Loved by You)' from 'Motown Hits' by 'Marvin Gaye' on Media Jukebox

The upgrade issue has caused a lot of confusion but I think Jim has cleared it up here:
and in the FAQ.

To summarise:
If you buy an MJ8 license before 1st Dec 02, or you already have one, you don't need to do anything. You can upgrade to MC9 for free now or at any time in the future

Please correct me if I'm wrong, Jim

cjdshaw, you're correct, but the offer won't last forever.  For at least three months after release, MJ 9 will work with an 8.0 license bought before December 1.

mastiff and mhorton,
If you need TV, your choices now are to stick with the previous build of 8 or to switch to V9 (if you have a license for 8 ).  If you have questions, please start a new thread.

JimH> For at least three months after release, MJ 9 will work with an 8.0 license bought before December 1.

OK, that means that someone (like me) with an pre-12/1/02 MJ8 license can move to MJ9 by installing it within 3 months of the MJ9 official release, and then we will have an "MJ8 license that works with MJ9", and that license will work with MJ9 forever.  Right?

Or are you saying that the license will only work for 3 months?

Your statement seems to imply each equally, but they are very different things.

Jim,

Any idea when vs9 will be music only.  I loved testing vs9 but I am only into music no tv or dvd and I really like some of the fuction in vs 9  I even purchase a vs 9 licence but I dont need all the tv or dvd or art work features.

Can you give us a time line when vs8 will be ported over to striped down vs of 9.

Was running 8.0.379 and after many attempts to get MJ to read my CD without rebooting I decided to try the lastest build.

No joy.  If I have a CD in the drive and click the "CD & Handhelds" folder I see a dialog "Gathering information" and MJ crashes with an error in MJ.exe.

Yes Yes Yes - Cover Art is fixed........

One Question though.  Where does it get the "Cover Art" from?

Some covers cannot be found, so i would like to find them from elsewhere and post them to the Cover Art Source.

A really really nice feature would be to have "Cover Art" tell me when it cannot find a cover.  If it identified this I would then be able know (when doing a multiple cover search) which ones I needed to find elsewhere (or scan in) and then upload to the Cover Art location.

Cheers

Graham

BUG: If you change the name of the custom fields (Custom 1, 2 & 3), those new names are not reflected everywhere else in the interface. For example, when creating a new view scheme...you still have to select "Custome 1" or "Custom 2" , etc. instead of the more descriptive names the user may have given those fields.

Best,
Brad

I think the Media Center Forum Would Be A Good Place To Get It, Maybe The First Message will provide More Info and a link to it.
