Title: Static in the background--bad CD burn?

Hi-

The last several discs I have burned have a lot of static in the background.  It's not noticeable on my home or car stereo, but it's really bad when I listen to these with headphones.  Any idea why?

I'm not sure what would cause this. I assume you've checked the original files to verify that they don't have the static in them.
You could try unchecking the "decode direct" option and slow the burn speed down to about 8X and see if there's a difference. Make sure you don't have anything running in the background while you're burning.
If that doesn't help, try just converting one of the files to wave and listen for static.

Could it be a problem related to the headphones? If you're using headphones connected straight to your soundcard it might be the noise of the PC seeping in...

JohnT: I see the advice for slowing down the burn speed frequently in relation to audio CD burning, but I can't figure out on my own why that would have any impact... do you hve links to tests or something on this? I would appreciate it.
