Title: Action Window Changes in build 65
Post by: wuub on February 10, 2004, 05:03:52 am
Hi,
still going on about the A.Window.
1 - As you can now reduce/expand a view, can we be able to have 2+ windows expanded [ie: Tag Info + Image] ?

2 - Any chance of having the last AW settings saved between sessions ?

Please

I second that one.  I like the AW, but it has a few obvious omissions to the way it works, like saving it's state between sessions.

I split these posts from the build thread so there could be a discussion.

We added a minimize and close button to most of the Action Window windows in build 65.

We're not saving the state between sessions yet.  We may add that, but we're starting with the full Action Window each time MC is started.  That's because we found that new users couldn't find the Action Window items they needed if we didn't start there.  Once you've used it much, it's clear that you can go forward and back, but a new user often doesn't understand this.  An option to save the state between sessions would be nice.

It's a similar story for keeping more than one window open at once.  We could definitely do this, but it complicates the interface.  This kind of change is more likely to be considered in the next release.

I'd like both features, I rip and tag constantly and having the ability to toggle between them or have both windows open would be quite welcome.

However, I can certainly see how a new user would be confused if for instance they didn't really know about the utility of the action window, minimized it and then forgot about it. An option with the default set to the current default would seem to work for everyone with little effort.

maybe one of them Pop-Ups with a check box when a user goes to close the action window. and the pop-up tells them how to reactivate.

Check box "don't tell me this again"

We should probably provide options:

1.  Remember state between sessions
2.  Allow maximum of (x) windows to be open.

These changes probably won't make it into the 10.0 release.  We'll probably begin working on the next release in about 30 days.

What's your eta for finishing 10??

There are some big things that will happen with this release.  They aren't visible yet.  You may or may not find them useful or interesting.  I can't say more than that.

Is there any chance you can give us brief details of your objectives for v10, if not now maybe sometime soon.  Often the first time we find out about any new features is on the day they are released or by a post in here shortly before release.

It would be nice to have an idea of what improvements are top of your list.  That doesn't mean I expect you to invite a big debate over them or even stick to them hard and fast but it would be nice to know where we are going with this.  It's pretty unusual to beta a major release without having a clue where it's heading.
