Title: Grouping compilation albums in thumnails view
Post by: rikM on February 14, 2004, 11:09:31 am
I have lots of compilations in my library with multiple artists, which are tagged as belonging to the same album, so have the same cover art.

When I browse using the album thumbnails view, a thumbnail is shown for each different track within the compliation, I guess because they're by different artists.

Is there a way to group (or whatever) these together to show as just one thumbnail?  I've had a good play around and search through here but can't seem to find the (probably dead simple) answer.

Looks like you have the same issue as I do.

You may not like the answer I got - There is no easy way to resolve it unless you save all the compilation CDs filed under 'various artists' rather than under the true artist for each track.

Of course the tracks will still have the right artist - but will not filed on your HD as such.

Thanks for that caarot.  Seems like I'll have to spend a bit of time organising my files and folders then.

Thinking about it, I'm sure there's a way to get MC to rearrange your directory structure to the one you recommend to solve the thumbnail problem... being an ipod user, I tried out itunes for a while, realised its shortcomings, and have returned to MC.  Itunes did reorganise my folders - I'm sure MC can return them to a sensible state!

Just edit the view scheme you are using and replace the Artist with Album Artist (auto) in the step 1 section of the view scheme.
