Sometimes when I tag mp3 files, and then import them on another PC, the tags do not carry over. I remember seeing an option to store tags in file when possible, but can't seem to find it anymore.
-
MC keeps the tags and library in synch by default. (Options > General > Update tags when file info changes)
Make sure your files aren't read-only.
-
Thanks for the help- it looks like some folders are read-only.
-
Is there any way to know what tags are being stored in files and what ones aren't?

you can go to options and view options, there you can go into each tag by using "edit" and see if that option to save to tag when poss is turned on.
-
One small change that I would like would be that if the tag does not save, it does not change in MC.
Many times, it says that it could not update the file, but the info still changes in MC. Later I forget this, and then it only becomes a problem when I re-import. Many people that I have set up MC with, complain to me about this as well.

Make sure your files or directories are not set to "read only". This can happen if you copy files from a CD using Explorer.
-
I don't know of any jukebox that will unprotect any file or dir and allow tags to be written but it might come in handy.
tags could not be saved to the following files

would you like media center to attempt to save changes after unprotecting the files and dir?
-
I don't think MC needs to unprotect it. I just would like to see MC not reflect a change when it has not really occurred.
That way, I would immediately see that the file has not changed and then would know to go make it not read-only.
As it stands now, MC tells you it could not update the file, but it still does in it's own library.
