This is a beta. Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you. Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.
Please reserve this thread for obvious bugs. If you're not sure, or you need to ask a question, please start a new thread.
Please keep a list of issues you find and report them with each build until we have addressed them.
The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:

Please check the license and price thread before you download:

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10072.exe
IMPORTANT -- This build includes a re-worked handheld system. Only IPOD, WMDM, and Nomad Jukebox players currently work (for Nomads, please install the new plug-in -- 9.0.33). Tread lightly if handheld support is important to you.
10.0.72 (2/17/04)
1. NEW: MC included updated Remote Server (Options > Startup) -- several bug fixes and better support of new view scheme system. (thanks Ben)
2. Fixed: ASIO playback did not work with ASIO drivers that didn't operate in their own thread.
3. Changed: In-place editing disabled for handheld players -- organize in MC before transferring.
4. Changed: Tuned album analyzer so that instead of having to be a complete album to be a mix, files will just have to be the only album in the directory.
5. Changed: If an empty password is used for Access Control, MC won't prompt for a password anymore.
6. Fixed: Access Control was not allowing custom searches.
7. NEW: Added tree selection skin item. (see Blue Steel for an example)
8. Changed: Scrollbar not always visible in Action Window home. (only when necessary)
9. Changed: Action Window home doesn't show gridlines.
10. Changed: Action Window header text more prominent.
11. Fixed: Ability to transfer m4b files to iPod.
12. Fixed: Available and used space in portable synching dialogue.
13. Fixed: Audible (AA) files wouldn't always play on iPod.
10.0.71 (2/16/04)
1. Fixed: Track artist names in CD-Text were not being read properly for CD's new to MC.
2. Changed: Using the smartlist "No Duplicates" shuffles before running so there aren't a lot of track #1 files.
3. Changed: Default sorting uses 'Album Artist (auto)' instead of plain 'Artist'. (affects SDK / automation / NetRemote as well)
4. Changed: Root of "Quick Play > Media Library" menu no longer shows view scheme items next to child view schemes.
5. Changed: Album Analyzer doesn't consider an album a mix album unless it is also complete -- will cause far less false (Multiple Artist) entries on less organized libraries.
6. Changed: Media Center includes an improved "Green Eyes" skin.
7. NEW: Added Tree & View option "Auto collapse tree." (on by default)
8. Fixed: When selecting a handheld player in the Action Window that couldn't initialize, MC would show an error message repeatedly.
9. Fixed: Showing a handheld that wouldn't initialize in the tree would throw several identical message boxes.
10. Changed: Copy (and cut) in the search box does a better job of copying the selection instead of always full tokens.
11. Fixed: OGG files couldn't be burned to an audio CD.
12. Changed: Drive letter from CD burning session is remembered for subsequent burn sessions.
13. Fixed: Problem sending tag info to portables with a '|' character.
14. Fixed: Playcount and Rating synching to MC from Portables.
15. Fixed: "MC not responding" message during initialization of Portables.
16. Changed: Reworked removable drive player synchronization to be compatible with new synchronization in MC.
17. Fixed: The error reporting mechanism for secure rip mode was broken.
18. Fixed: Entering trailing / leading slashes in the Send To > Web or FTP dialog would cause errors.
10.0.70 (2/13/04)
1. Changed: Changing the frame rate of visualizations no longer requires a playback restart.
2. NEW: Search post process commands (start with ~) are evaluated in order, and multiple of the same command can be used. (some advanced smartlists may need to be tuned to work)
3. Fixed: Smartlists wouldn't update on-the-fly while editing them.
4. NEW: Added an option to "Auto show when playback stops" to Theater View.
5. Fixed: Starting TV playback from Theater View wouldn't always start with the correct channel.
6. Fixed: Playing Now wouldn't always update properly when removing duplicates.
7. Fixed: Download Manager was leaking memory.
8. Fixed: MC was incorrectly reporting duration of streams in ASX files.
9. Fixed: Handheld action window was accepting streaming files.
10. Fixed: Better checking is done regarding the type of files being dropped onto a Handheld device.
11. Changed: Auto selection of CD burn mode (audio or data) happens in some cases, depending on file types.
12. Fixed: iPod playlists would not save if player disconnected from outside of MC.
13. Fixed: WMDM uploads broken in last MC build.
-
13. Fixed: Audible (AA) files wouldn't always play on iPod.
Thanks for concentrating on this issue lately.

4. Changed: Tuned album analyzer so that instead of having to be a complete album to be a mix, files will just have to be the only album in the directory.
Is there a way that I can disable this feature completely? I never want MC to decide that my albums are mixes, as I always figure out what artist recorded the song and label it that way. Unfortunately, it seems that the album analyzer sometimes decides that my album is a mix when it is not, which is irritating when I am burning MP3 CDs.
If there is no way to disable it, how do I override what it decides? I have been searching for this on-and-off for a few months and haven't found an easy way yet.
Thanks again for all the great work!

Please start a thread and describe a scenario where it's wrong. We don't think it should give false positives anymore.

1. The option to 'start in last location' does not work if Audio filter is applied to the Media Library; MC starts in the 'start' page instead.
2. MC10 will not play files from WMDM portable device if I double click them from within MC10 (Error message: MC cannot play files from this device). However, when I click on the same file in Windows Explorer MC 10 plays it just fine.
3. MC 10 doesn't read the tags correctly from WMDM iRiver (Artist, Genre, bit rate, etc.., are blank), while Windows Explorer displays the tag information from the iRiver correctly.

I am trying the 10.x demo and enjoy it. If i purchase the program and have stability issues, will i be able to install and use 9.x with the same code? Or if i just buy 9.x will i have to pay again for the 10.x when it is not beta?
BTW, could it be setup so that we could put in shortcuts for commands? I am getting slightly annoyed with having to do repetitive commands manually when setting up shortcuts would be great. Or even global shortcuts so that i don't even have to have the window focused. Just a thought.

10. Changed: Action Window header text more prominent.
Not to mention the headers of the pane columns.
This looks fine in Blue Steel, but in PixOS it looks really really horrible. Any way to make this available on a per-skin basis?
-
7. NEW: Added Tree & View option "Auto collapse tree." (on by default)
Is there any possiblity of getting the old functionality back on this -- i.e. any way for the "Media Types" to NOT collapse by default when you have "collapse" on? I like using "collapse," but when I first start up MC, I have to go through this routine of selecting something else, then selecting the little "+" next to Media Library, then selecting Audio. This didn't use to be necessary -- when starting the program on "Media Library" by default, this branch would stay expanded from then on.
Thanks,
Larry

This has been asked before, but it seems like an odd omission. Is there any chance of adding a way to save a "favorite state" of the AW? Once I start using the program I end up with a small "stack" of AWs based on my particular workflow. It would be a really nice feature to have MC be able to save this stack of AWs so that it always started in a "ready to use" state. This might seems like a small thing, but I think it would really add to MC since it would allow customization on something that most people would definitely want to customize.
Thanks,
Larry

This would be very handy

1. "Auto Rip" is not working here. The progress bar remains full with the final rip speed to it's left. Underneath that it says "Complete. Insert another cd or click close". Underneath that, I have "show list" on the left and a close button on the right. After inserting the new disc, I haveno option other than to click close and start the rip process from scratch.
2. [date] field not being saved to file. (option is set in tree&view settings)
3. Image > quick find in file/coverart directory does not pick up correctly named [artist] - [album].bmp files. (works with .jpg's)
4. 'Right click > locate > external, opens the containing folder in explorer, but the target file is not selected.
5. 'Right click > locate > on disc - internal' is still quite buggy. If the action window is showing a large screen like tag or filetype info, then a lot of wierdness ensues while MC drills through My Computer, and when its done, the AW obscures the selected tree node.
All appears to work a bit more smoothly when the action window is at its default size, "home" or "image" for example. Click back, choose another file, "locate" is now top of the menu, hit that, MC begins to refresh the left panel, then crashes. The numner of times locate is used before MC crashes varies, but the crash will happen. So far, I've not done 4 without a crash.
6. Action Window navigation.
[comments moved to new thread]
7. when "update tags from library" is used on a large (several hundred) selection of files, it goes through the lengthy updating procedure, then, eventually announces that a large number of files are up for change, that this could take a long time, and am I sure I want to do this?
I click yes, and am immediately presented with the "success/failure" report. Seems the update had already been performed, making that "are you sure" dialogue redundant and confusing. Surely it should appear 1st?
8. Streaming media is still a truly hit and miss affair. I've now officially given up on it with MC. When I want to listen to radio station streams I now use different software that works while MC does not. Shame really, but there ya go ::)

Wishlist Please consider these...
1. rename files from properties: Can we have an MRU button (for recently used locations) next to the browse button for "base directory"
2. remember action window state across sessions
3. remember right-click MRU across sessions
4. Auto-complete: Would be neat if this could also "auto-dropdown" and filter the list. (I always forget to drop-down first and think auto-complete is broke)
5. Long time wish :) (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=9958;start=msg59228#msg59228) (3d picture cube)
6. remember media mode state across sessions.
Thank you :)

6. Action Window navigation.
From AW home, click on "file properties" and we see a sub-menu (tag info, image, file type info etc etc) Go into any of these views, then click "back". Instead of going back to the "file properties" menu, it goes back to AW home.
This is by design. Sorry. It's less confusing for new users and a small price to pay for more experienced users.
Thanks for the bug reports.

mkutsen,
Does that iRiver display tags correctly with Windows Media Player?
Steve
-
It still wont rename a multi artist album into an "assorted" folder.
-
How can I tell if my handheld is WMDM? I am using an Archos AV380 and I used to be able to send files to it. Now, when I go to transfer, the disc activity light on the handheld flashes continueously but no files ever get written. MC locks up and I have to terminate it and restart it.
-
Closing MC10 while Audio Analysis is in progress causes a Media Core error. 100% repeatable for me.
-
jgourd,
When you enable the Tools->Plugin Manager->Handheld->Portable Devices->Configure->Enable WMDM checkbox, if you see the player listed under CD, DVD and Handhelds, it is WMDM compatible.

I can confirm this. It is not working for me either.

Hi!
The iPod support is still not working 100%. With the latest build, i'm able to sync playlists/smartlists again. But if i click on any "+" sign in the iPod tree inside MC, MC will just - "Poof" - go away (=crash). I also do think that playlists (and smartlists) are only synched completely (all playlists/smartlists with all the files) when i sync twice.
Another thing that's new for me is that the "multiple artists" mp3 albums imported with .72 won't group as albums in the "album thumbnail" view. This means that, for my new imported mix or sampler albums, i see every file with its own thumbnail, while the "single artist" albums are shown correctly, with one thumbnail per album.
Before testing the iPod sync, i had the iPod formatted & re-initialized (=empty).

How can I tell if my handheld is WMDM?
The manufacturer's specs should say. If it plays protected WMA files it is WMDM compliant.
-
The Picture Cube 3D Visualization no longer seems to change album art as playing songs change (from different albums). It always displays the cover of the song selected when play is hit. If you hit stop and play again, it does reload the correct art, but then if if you hit next or previous it never changes. The other 3D Visualizations change as expected.

mkutsen,
Does that iRiver display tags correctly with Windows Media Player?
Steve
I don't know, I uninstalled WMP; but they are displayed in Windows Explorer. Also MC will play them if I double click any portable file from within Windows Explorer, but not from within MC10.

Opening the AW "File Type Info" page with an offline synchonized file causes MC to crash with the following error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\...\Media Jukebox.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
[OK]
If you have the AW "File Type Info" page open and you navigate to an offline synchronized file you get the following message in a dialog box:
PlaybackEng
The parameter is incorrect.
[OK]

Cannot convert to OGG or WMA when transferring to a flash card in a USB reader. This has been a problem since at least 10.0.70.

The manufacturer's specs should say. If it plays protected WMA files it is WMDM compliant.
It only plays MP3s, JPGs, DivX, and XViD media files.
