Hey all, I need advice:
How do I go about ripping DVD video to mpeg or avi? Can I do it wihtin MC10? If not, what program(s) do you recommend (preferable free)?
Thanks,
Bob

Try www . doom9 . net (without spaces )
for more than you could ever want to know about DVD archiving etc. Look at the "Guides" section.
I don't think MC does or ever will "archive" DVDs

DVD decrypter is your best bet for ripping DVDs and it's free. You can RIP in IFO mode to get individual files. In settings you can specify how it separates the tracks e.g. 1 file per chapter etc. This will rip to VOB format but VOB is just an MPEG so it's just a case of renaming them from .VOB to .MPEG. SmartRename is a great little free program for doing a batch rename BTW.
There are lots of programs that will convert a VOB to an AVI but you'll need the DIVX 5.1 codec (free). I use Virtual Dub which works really nicely.

I like DVDShrink. I rip the DVD with that and then, if neede, I go on to coding it with DVD2AVI and so on. Doom9 is the correct site, yes.

Even I managed to use FairUse (free) so it must be easy!
