Title: Missing files in Playlist!!
Post by: labambo on February 21, 2004, 08:53:36 am
Created a playlist in MediaCenter.

Then I moved files in the WindowsExplorer. Now the files or not in the playlist anymore.

It doesn't even show me, that I have ever added these files to the playlist.

How can I fix this problem??

I want the playlist to show me all files I added, even if they have been moved (in WinExplorer).

Please Help!!

Thanx

there is no way MC can track your files if you are moving them around behind its back.

I was going to suggest using MC's internal "My Computer" to shift your files around, but in quick tests I've done here just now, it's a bit on the buggy side atm.

The theory goes that if you move files using MC's internal file browser, the database will keep up with any changes you make and your playlists will remain good.

In my tests here, dragging and dropping causes MC to crash, and, although the file is moved, the database is not updated. Selecting a bunch of files and using Library tools > move/copy disk file worked just fine though.

tanx ... figured that moving files inside MC is updating the playlists, however moving several folders at once is not possible in mc.. that sucks...

Have you tried Library Tools>Rename Files From Properties?

hmm.. no.. but how can that solve my problem??

For example: I got this folder construction:

C:techno
C:music
      subfolders: techno prog.
                         techno soft.
                         techno melod.

Now I want to move all the 3 subfolders in the folder c:techno at once.

That's not possible, isn't it??

I believe that if you have a disk location view scheme with C:\techno as the base directory, you will get a column with your 3 subfolders (and any other subfolders that have imported media in them). Ctrl click the 3 subfolders you want to move, and all the files in them will show up in the content pane below.  Now you can rename all those files at once using Library Tools>Rename Files From Properties.  I guess 'techno prog.' etc are your genres, so use 'Genre' as part of the Directory rule in the Rename dialogue...  Voila!  Not exactly snappy, but if it works... :-\
