Title: CD Burning- speeds

Cd Ripping - can't seem to get this to go faster than 1.2X regardless of which drive I use..any suggestions before I trash the drive and upgrade?

Also tell us what format you are ripping to and what settings you've applied (e.g. secure, high quality etc).  What speed do you get if you rip to Uncompressed Wave?

Ripping at high quality is slower but worthwhile.  If you have a lot of ripping to do you could rip to Uncompressed Wave and then encode all files later to MP3 or whatever in a big batch via Tools> Advanced Tools> Convert Format.

Am trying Mp3 VBR at high quality.... This is what I had been using  with my other programs.  from there.  How do I check the PIO and DMA settings?  Used to use Nero 6 for burning  and only noticed the slow down lately.  Thanks.

FYI: VBR high quality may be --alt-preset standard...but to be sure set the quality to Custom, hit the Advanced button (to the right) and copy -n- paste the bold string above into it.

Top 3 LAME quality settings order:
--alt-preset insane (320 CBR)
--alt-preset extreme (~ 220 VBR)
--alt-preset standard (~ 192 VBR)

Thanks..checked the settings, and all were  at 'DMA if avail." for primary, secondary, however, has a transfer mode of Ultra DMA mode 2....and it won't let me change it.  So will try out all the other suggestions.  Thanks.

Tried every suggestion, and then took my problem to my locat techie...seems to be a hardware problem... but now i have another question....why am I getting files with a cda extension when I rip?  I have it set to mpe VBR, changed the quality to normal and still have rip and encode simult. checked.  I know cda stands for audio cd...but why two sets?  Is this another reason why the rip process is so slow?  TTFN
