This is in late beta. It may still have problems.
Please reserve this thread for bugs. If you're not sure whether it's a bug, or you need to ask a question, please start a new thread.
Please keep a list of issues and report them from time to time until we have addressed them.
The latest stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html
Please check the license and price thread before you download:

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10080.exe
IMPORTANT -- This build includes a re-worked handheld system. Only IPOD, WMDM, and Nomad Jukebox players currently work (for Nomads, please install the new plug-in). Tread lightly if handheld support is important to you.
10.0.80 (2/27/04)
1. Fixed: MC was not retrieving metadata from Windows Media streams.
2. Fixed: MC could crash when showing a menu, and then moving the mouse left and right a lot to see other menus.
3. Fixed: Media Server could crash when clicking column headers to sort.
4. Fixed: Wait Message could cut off display text in some cases.
5. NEW: Import option "Don't import small files" now filters small images and small data files as well.
6. Changed: Auto-pan during image slideshows zooms less.

I keep trying to burn data dvds with the 10.0 betas, but always get 'invalid address for write'. This beta does too.
I set the burning speed to 2x before my most recent attempt. The DVD burner works fine using Nero at 2x with the same media.

Getting album cover art seems to be broken again.
Were you able to get any? I just got 5 albums...
-
when using 'clean file properties' the prog runs through all files and then tries to create music folders as needed, but when i click okay it fails to do so. come up with some comment about 'refers to a location that is unavailable' then cant find hdd, might be on network drive (which it is, but its still connected).
mmm - now its just hung...
also given that my flies are in quite a mess, the only way out is to either crash the prog or click yes/no some hundreds of times!

When playing short videos (my music mpg's) MC is stalling (a few seconds) between videos and showing icons or cover Art and text saying "opening". This has been happening since 10.073.
It's a bit annoying when your playing a high volume of music videos. Please fix it to be seamless like before, or give us the option to turn it off.
Thanks!

Slow Click - editing in place is working strange.
I just upgrade to 10.0.80 from 10.0.6xxx something.
Now I slow click on a field, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Other times if flickers into edit mode and right back out.
And when it does work, using the up/down cursor keys does not move to the upper/lower field in edit mode.

As per JimH's reccomendation:
Download Manager is taking over even though it has been disabled.
I double & triple checked and 'disable browser integration' is checked, however whenever I select certain file types (only .asx & .asf so far) Download Manager still starts up. It does not start for other file types, but so far my testing has been much less than exhaustive so there may be other file types its interfering with as well.

1) WMA radio stations are still broken.
2) Searching radio stations by speed is still broken -- the speed dropdown box has no effect on searches.
3) Cover art still does not display in the Track Info window of Playing Now when songs are played via Media Server, but it displays in all other views (3D visualizations, AW "Image" screen, etc.)
4) 3D visualizations are still quite buggy -- a few of them do not always properly wrap the cover art image around the 3D object ("3D text," for example, is often just grey or black text against the cover art background.) Others, like tunnel, always work correctly. Switching back and forth between the other 3D modes will usually get them to work correctly, but when the song changes the problem often reappears. This basically makes "some" of the 3D vis modes "effectively" useless. I've noticed this on 4 different systems now. All of them have different graphics cards, but they're all nvidia.

1. R/clicking in main window is flaky - sometimes takes 2 go's
2. Moving through the columns/rows in main window via arrow keys is broken

But, for me, they are broken differently!
I see "Locating..." instead of the Error can't find files type message or crashing.

when i am exploring my computer files in mc it crashes (and shuts down mc, with no error message) every time i open a directory with lots of sub directories (eg music directory)

On my systems, some streams work, others don't.
2) Searching radio stations by speed is still broken -- the speed dropdown box has no effect on searches.
I think there's a big misconception about the "speed" search criteria. What it does is **limit** streams returned to those that have the selected speed or lower. So if you select 56 kbs, you'll only get streams 56 kbs or lower. Now, as to why they have it setup like this, you got me. It would be *much* more useful if it just returned streams supporting the selected speed. In fact, if they kept it like is and just added the capability to sort on the speed value, that would suffice for me.

Yeah, I've notice this one for a LOOOONG time.

I'm still getting leftover bursts of music left in a buffer after stopping and restarting playback. This never really ever went away.

You appear to be correct on this. I always assumed it would set a "lower" limit, but it sets an "upper" limit, which I had not considered. What it needs is a criteria selection for "greater than," "lower than," or "equal to." This would allow it to be useful for everybody, rather than just for people who want lower rather than higher speeds.

It was suggested that this is a driver issue, and while I can't specifically argue with that, it's been around since the 9.0 days, and has effected numerous driver releases and several nvidia cards. I play many D3D and OpenGL games and do not get any problems on any of them, so if it's a driver issue it's one that effects MC only, which seems to make it more likely to be an MC bug.

Well I'm running different video cards (ATI and GEForce) in different machines. They all exhibit this problem. The machine I'm on now uses an ATI AIW 9000 Pro. Among name-brand video, the AIW Pro series is probably the most popular. And if not the most, it's definitely in the top 5. Besides, I don't see how this could possibly be a driver issue. The cover art (as previously mentioned) displays fine in other modes. Is the rendering so different from one mode to the next? And the same issue has coincidentally popped up on cards made by completely different manufacturers? I'm skeptical.
So let me end this post with a question to James River:
Have y'all been able to reproduce the problem there?
-
Getting album cover art seems to be broken again.
Were you able to get any? I just got 5 albums...
My success rate went up to a whopping 33%....
There seems to be a lot of issues involved with ripping multiple, secure CDs. It may have something to do with that. The multi-rip feature is still pretty klutzy, it seems to have taken a step back from past versions.
-

Exactly -- this is one reason I never felt this was a driver issue. I was merely addressing the suggestion someone else had made.
And the same issue has coincidentally popped up on cards made by completely different manufacturers
This pretty much confirms that it is not a driver issue. The only reason I couldn't say this for sure was that all my cards of some version of the Geforce. With you confirming the issue on an ATI card, it's pretty certain that this is an MC issue.

2 bugs:
1) when i use the copy then paste fuctions (from the drop down menu) they actually function as cut and paste (ie. it removes the original files)- big pain for me as i like to keep most music on an externall hdd, but put some choice tunes on my laptop. Can you either rename the copy function, or change it so it does actually copy
2) i mentioned predviously that when im searching through my computer folders mc crashes when i open a folder with many subdirectories. ive been checking this (by moving things in and out of that folder) and it works fine when there are less than 20 subdirectories, but when there are several hundred, it crashes when it ries to expand the parent directory

It seems an old bug has crept in again....
When inserting or ejecting a cd/dvd this message appears:
"The desired handheld is not valid".
I can turn this off by disabling the auto-sync function (Tools-Options-Devices, set handheld to "nothing").
Earlier there was a similar bug that crashed MC. This time only the message appears.
However, it is rather annoying and it stands in the way when ripping cd's in a sequence. Then you have to click it twice before you can rip the next cd.

Thanks for confirming this for me, what sound card are you using? I have a Audiophile 24/96 card and am running the lastest drivers.

I've had this issue with SBLive 5.1 and 5.1+, SB Audigy, and SB Audigy 2 sound cards, including more than one driver release of each card.

BUGS:
With the handheld redo, I guess, because the portable drive support for my CF-cards no longer works right (via USB reader). Just tried it and wow...yucky bad.
1. MC copied the files out of order...so my Nex II player will not play them back in album-track # order
2. MC copied the files to the root even though it clearly showed it would upload to a directory (I used drag-n-drop to specify where MC should upload to on the CF-card)
3. The AW info and popup 'Are you sure' (when you press Transfer) dialog for this process is a big mess...so many ###s (stats) for this and that, but still nothing useful...the most useful one is not there (bytes remaining for this upload). Those screens will certainly endup on some PC magazine's 'What were they thinking?' list. So many useless stats in fact that you can hardly make AW wide enough to see them (too funny...sad).

This has issue has been around since verison 9 -- MC's "copy and paste" is actually "cut and paste." If you want to ACTUALLY copy and paste, you have to use "Library Tools > Move/Copy Disk file." I completely agree that it's odd for MC's copy/paste to work different from the Windows standard (i.e. the way every other windows application works) and think that MC should incorporate the standard "cut, copy, paste" items in the right click menu. I posted about this a while back, but the idea didn't seem to get much support, so I reluctantly dropped it.

As reported on one of the recent builds, the secure rip results are not showing up until you hit "close" on the rip window. It seems to make a lot more sense to display this information directly after the rip is done.

Likewise with M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 card. I've learned to live with it even tho' I've tried driver updates, etc.

1. Fixed: MC was not retrieving metadata from Windows Media streams.
Thanks so much for this guys. I can now see most of the information on the song I'm streaming from my Nomad Jukebox Zen!!! The only other enhancement I'd like to see at some point is the .m3u entry for songs not streaming yet instead of just the word "Song". Nice progress though. Thanks again.

I can't get the system screen saver to show at any time while MC is running. Doesn't matter which view I'm in.
If the MC window is displayed, then I must quit MC, go to the screen saver properties, set it to None, apply it and then reset a screen saver.

Not sure, but I think some of the issues regarding album cover art may be related to selecting an album in Album thumbnail view and saving in the file. It appears that not all tracks are assigned the cover.
