Title: Liner notes accessible?
Post by: tglennt on February 29, 2004, 11:06:09 am
I have recently purchased MC, I'm having fun learning it,  and the replies to my queries here are greatly appreciated.

Next beginer's question: I know cover art can be associated with a cd in MC; what about liner notes? Are they accessible?  Thanks again.

With MC you can create as many new "custom" fields as you want. If the standard "comments" field is not what you want to store the liner notes, you can create a new field named "Liner Notes" and store the info there. Be advised, however, that you will have to enter (o copy) the same info to all the tracks of the album, as you have to do with cover art.

The advantage of using standard fields is that they will be viewable under software other than MC if you have set your options to "store in file tags when possible". Not all the custom fields can store the info in file tags.

If you need help to create a new custom field, let us know.

"Liner Notes" is what was published on the back of the original LP cover or as an insert with a CD or LP. John Schaefer, for example, wrote the liner notes for the Yo Yo Ma "Appalachian Journey" CD.  Maybe I'm wrong using the term.

In any event, my question has to do with whether MC can retrieve the notes or essay published with the original album -  just like it can retrieve the cover art of an LP or CD. Is this possible in MC? Sorry for the confusion.
