I have had many problems with itunes files. The copy protected files have given me such headaches. I had problems when itunes downloaded the wrong bitrate (even though i had different selections selected). Then more issues when i moved them off my C: to an external HDD. Then recently i reformatted my C: and have therefore deactivated my computer from iTunes. I fixed that, now some of the files will and some wont play in MC. Big mess...
what ive learnt is to continue buying physical CD's at least then i know if there is a problem i can just rip them again.

I didn't know that you could select different bitrates?
Also, you could just burn the songs to a CD. It's a round about method, but it would allow you to use your songs easily.

itunes works perfectly for me and ive bought way too many songs. no you cant choose bitrate.

Hey ipodman, that's what O/T stands for 'off topic' meaning the poster can post what he or she feels relavent. Even if it is commenting on experiences with music services and how those files may or may not play in MC.

In the light of day i see that the tone i used has positioned this in the wrong thread.
However, i dont want this to degenerate into simply slanging another product (a fairly unconstructive use of time). I have a problem with something ive paid for and ideally would like to fix it.
I dont want to post this in an itunes specific forum as im now trying to get the tunes to work in MC.
As regards the bitrate issue: i guess i was wrong, i misinterpreted the Edit>preferences>importing sub menu to allow me to choose what bitrate i downloaded songs at, not only what rate i would rip CD's at.
Whats confusing me now is that in MC, half the songs work fairly well (theres some bizarre jumps/silences which i didnt think were there before - still need to listen to them on itunes so see if its the file). But there are tracks that i can play in itunes that MC 'sees' but just skips over. How can i fix this?
Also is it right that MC thinks all M4P tracks are of 0seconds duration - as if they are live?
thanks

pipsqueak,
Is it possible for you to email one of the files that you have problems playing so I can figure out what the problem is here?
Thanks,
steve @ jriver.com

on its way...

I don't have a problem with the songs that I have purchased from ITune but it seems like Media Player will not show the tag information for those files correctly.
Is that your experience too?
(I'm new to MediaPlayer so I might have missed a setting)
-
ChristerTX,
Can you elaborate on this problem?

ChristerTX,
I see you started another thread. I will close this one and respond there.
