BB Initialization still failing
« on: March 04, 2004, 02:57:34 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been your customer since version 8 and love your product media Center very much. It is the centre of my home entertainment room.
My problem is the following:
I always get the message "BB initialization failed" while restoring the license, when I moved to a new Laptop.

What i´ve tried (multiple times)

1. I deinstalled version no 9 and bought no 10 got a new key and tried to restore again. Same error

2. I downgraded to 9 and tried again.
Same Error

3. Contacted the forum
deinstalled everything. Got a fresh restore. Logged in as administrator. Tried again and failed

4. installed the latest Version 10...83 today tried again and failed!

Now I really need your help!

Please help me, what can i do?

turn off your fire wall if you have one, maybe that will help.

Did you restore?

www.mediajukebox.com/license has details.

Try the right click/save as option described there.

Instead of starting new threads, please use reply in the same thread.  It makes it easier to find the information we need.

Please report the version you are using.  If not the latest, please update.  You can copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.

Can you try restoring on another PC?  If it works, save the install key by using the right click method.  Transfer to a floppy and use on the PC you're having trouble with.

Can you also try this build of MC?

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91319.exe

I used all the latest Versions like 10085 and one older, Version91319 and the release before that. i cannot give you the systeminfo, because the Trialperiod is already over. I have the latest Windows XP Professional running.
I am not willing to try this on another PC, because the last time deinstalling the MediaCenter on my wives PC lread to a total system failure (right-Mousebutton-Problem) and sloewd down her system permanent.

I think it would help to start from the beginning again so follow all of these steps:

Back up your library and the data directory in the MC Program Directory (your library is all the .jmd files).

Uninstall MC using the uninstall option in the start menu under JRiver Media Centre.

Delete the registry key HKCurrent User\Software\JRiver.

Reboot and make sure your system date and time are correct.

Download the latest version of MC 10 using IE and without using a download manager.

Install MC 10.

If your email from JRiver containing the mjr file for v10 license is less than 14 days old then run the mjr file.  If it's more than 14 days old visit the restore page (see above links) and have your install key ready to install your v10 license.

Check registration info via MC Help.

If it worked restore your library and data directory.

After you uninstall and before re-installing, make sure the Media Center directory (wherever you installed it, probably C:\Program Files\JRiver) has been deleted. Remove it if neccesary. After the reinstall, try restoring. Let us know if it works.

Thanks,

j

Sorry, still no solution in sight.

in the order you said i uninstalled, killed the registry, the filefolder, made a download of the latest version and reloaded the license recovery by clicking right/mouse button. Still the message "BB Initialization failed".
It is still impossible for me to get into the menue of media Center, because of the outrun trialperiod, so i canot give you the propper syteminfo, so i must give you this:

Sony Vaio GRX516SP
pentium 4 M CPU 2.00GHz
1.99 GHz
512 MB RAM
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 1

What should i do now?

This is a long shot but did you do all of that as a computer administrator or at least a power user.  Sorry I should have mentioned that.
