I can no longer transfer files to my Rio Karma in any format. It encodes\decodes, uploads the files and then MC shuts down with a "Media Core" error.
Also, it still will not upload Ogg Vorbis files at all. It encodes\decodes, gives a "transfer failed" dialog, and then shuts down with the media core error. The ogg problem has existed with every build I have tried.
Thanks.

Please report the version you're using. Build 86 was bad and crashed.
Please copy your system info from MC help and paste it here.

Does it work without converting formats?

Ok, I just tried this (moving a file to my karma) and MC 10.0.97 died with a memory error. It was a 5mb ogg file.
Let me know if you want me to run some other tests.

urlwolf and bhudge,
Please confirm that you have WMDM support enabled.
urlwolf,
At what point in the process did it give the error? What happens if you send an mp3?
bhudge,
Does it work without conversion or with a file type such as mp3?
-
Yes, I have WMDM support enabled.
All formats fail after transfer, including mp3, whether they are converted or not.
Hope this helps. Thanks.
-
bhudge,
Did you try with 10.0.88? If still failing, are the files present on the Karma after the failure?
Steve
-
With the .88 build, the transfers work again, except for Vorbis. With vorbis, I still get a "transfer failed" dialog, but now it no longer crashes.
As an aside, I also noticed a bug when uploading >10 files. I was transferring 15 files and the 'handheld progress' window counts file 1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc up until 10 files are uploaded, then for the remaining five it reads file 11 of 5, 12 of 5, 13 of 5, etc.
Thanks.

Update wit 10.0.89
mp3s seem to transfer ok. They are kind of slow compared to the software that comes with the rio, but other than that fine.
ogg files: MC10 doesn't crash, but you get the message 'transfer failed'
Thanks.

* bump * :)
-
bhudge,
The errors in the progress window should be fixed in tonight's build.
bHudge and urlwolf,
WHen I transfer ogg to a variety of WMDM devices (no Karma) they convert and then transfer without problem. I assume yours are converting OK, but then failing. What are you converting to ? I have been doing mp3 at 128.
Steve
-
Steve-
The transfer fails when attempting to convert to ogg (in my case, from ape), not when converting ogg to something else. Sorry for the confusion.
-
Steve,
The Karma supports .oggs, so there is no need for conversion. I just want to get an .ogg from my HD ahd put it in the portable, no conversion. This *used* to work a few versions ago...
-
Do either of you know if it is possible to send ogg files to Karma with Windows Media Player?
-
.ogg is not in the list of file associations. You cannot play .ogg. Actually, philisofically it would be very strange for them to support .oggs. I don't think so.
Why is that important? Why this feature worked a few versions ago, but not anymore?
-
Our support for Karma is based on a Windows standard called WMDM. Windows Media Player also uses this method to access players such as Karma. Because I don't have a Karma, I wanted to see if sending ogg is even possible with WMDM and Karma. If this worked a few builds ago and you have always had 'Enable WMDM' support checked, I do not know why this would not work now. Does the file start to transfer and then fail or instantly error?
Steve
-
Steve-
I have not noticed that this worked in previous builds as urlwolf suggests. I have never been able to convert\transfer ogg to the karma. My experience goes back to build 10.0.60 when I first reported this problem in another thread.
In every instance the file starts to transfer and then "transfer failed" messsage appears.
-
bhudge,
Are you saying that when you have conversion enabled for ogg to mp3 the files convert and then fail to transfer? This should not be. It is possible that ogg may not be able to be sent to Karma directly. Can you confirm which you are seeing?
Steve
-
No, it's the other way around. When I have conversion enabled from ape to ogg, the files convert but then fail to transfer. I am able to transfer ogg directly to the karma if I use Rio's software. Hope this helps.
-
bhudge,
Thanks. So the problem is that no ogg files go to the Karma with our WMDM solution. I think this is probably not going to work until we write a plugin with Rio's SDK.

YAY! Thanks Steve! That would be great! They actually released the code (open source) so more 3rd party developers (like you guys) could talk to the Karma as well as they do.
Very nice!
-
Ok, I just had the oportunity to try transferring oggs to my karma with a previous version of MC 10.0.70. It doesn't work. It gets stuck with the pop-up window 'analyzing devices'... Then you have to kill the application.
We really need a dedicated plugin. Most of the people I know use oggs in their karmas...
-
Bump for the Karma plugin ;D
-
pssssssssss....
someone is allready in beta with the Karma plugin
http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=3829 (http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=3829)
they also have FLAC.
But I like MC tagging better, and the picture integration also.

Are you saying that this will work in MC?
No, poweramp is a completely different product.
BTW, redchair:
http://www.redchairsoftware.com/riorad/
have a program to talk to the karma as if it was a folder in the explorer. They just added a new features. It works as it should.
Can anyone from MC confirm if you are actually looking at the open source libraries from rio?
-
Well, now that I've sunk money into MC, I would hate to jump ship now. But, it is upsetting that I can get the plugin for other programs but not MC yet. Hopefully soon?? ::)
A lot of us are active in the Rio forums. It would be nice to be able to advocate MC over there.
-
Just half an hour after getting my DMP, I already noticed a small scrach on it. well after some days of having it now (btw wish it could play m4a) I decided to shield it. I got my B3 penil and rubed it against a paper on-top of the karma to get its shape. then I took out a write-right sticker, from the ones I use for my palm, and I cut out a sticker.
however while whipping it clean , I scratched it ferther then it ever was :(. oh well Now its sheilded.
Now that the offical MC ver 10 will be out, I hope the development team would build some karma support in to MC. like FLAC support for one. althogh automatic playlists, and uploading them is far more importent.
