If I buy version 10.0, can I use that key when upgrading, or do I have to buy a new version?
-
Version 10 is the latest - still in beta in fact. Who knows what the future will bring? In the past a key bought for one version was good for the next at no charge. Do not assume that this will happen in the future, because there are no guarantees.
But if you do buy v10, you are getting some really powerful software for your money - it should serve you well for some time into the future, upgrades or not.
BTW I dont speak for JRiver.

Currently JRiver Does Not Offer A Lifetime Key.

That's not exactly accurate... V9 users had to pay for the 10 upgrade...
**Not that I am complaining..**

He never said how far 'in the past'.

That's true, but we were also offered a free V9 upgrade.

That's if you came from V8. If you bought V9 you paid for the V10 upgrade...
**Still Not Complaining**

You guys are right - I got it wrong. But I guess it proves my point anyway :)
Thanks JLee for your sympathetic interpretation. And Abbe - dont let lack of lifetime upgrades put you off.

I would imaging that once a non beta version is released we would get an update to that no?
-
Whether it's beta or not beta makes no difference except that beta customers sometimes benefit from a special price early in the development. Once you've purchased v10.0 (beta or otherwise) there are no guarantees that v10.1 or 11.0 (or whatever comes next) will be offered as a free upgrade.
JRiver makes a business decision on upgrade policy as they set out on the life cycle of each release. Then you make a personal decision at to whether you feel you are getting value for money. Simple as that.
Though I have been outspoken at times about the lack of new features in v10 (like many others have) this was never a complaint about price. I have always felt that MC offers fantastic value for money and was more than happy to fork out some extra $ for the new release. MC would have to be very expensive indeed for me to complain about the price given that it gives me a lot of entertainment and pleasure compared to any other software on my PC.

I don't have any problem with aa price for a version 11. However every beta piece of software I've puchased at least always upgrades you to the final version. I would think that they would release a final version of 10 before going to 11. Going from a Beta 10 to a final 11 makes no sense. At least put out a final maintainence release to squash any found bugs...

As JLee says, the license you purchase is for 10.0, whether it is beta or release.
The FAQ has details on licenses:

Hmm guess I din't read the final print well enough it would reallystink if they charge you to go from a Beta to a final, but the price was right, guess we'll just have to see what the upgrade price will be. I'm impressed by the software thou it does everything I really need.
-
Just to clarify... there isn't going to be any upgrade price from 10.0 beta to 10.0 release. They will both use the same license.
-
excellent, thanks
Have they given an ETA on the Fullrelease?
-
Soon.
