Title: Upgrade Woes
Post by: reuven10 on November 22, 2002, 12:13:55 pm
Hi all:

Could not find the link for the official support site.

Here is a copy of an e-mail I sent to the site which originated the e-mail msg. advicing me to upgrade to the "stable" v.9 beta:

=======================================
Hi Guys:

I just took your advice and installed ver.9 into a DIFFERENT directory from
ver.8.

The results were disastrous: Version 8 can not be run anymore and the new Ver.9 does not recognize my old license file.

When I got unto your webpage to restore my lic. file, I discovered that you do not have any record on me - a registered user (ver.7).

=======================================

Also, version 8 I was using prior to this upgrade had DFX properly linked to it, now it does not function.

Can someone point me to the official support site of JRiver's Media Jukebox?

Any similar experiences???

TIA

Reuven

Hi Reuven.

First off, sorry for the hassles.

About your MJ 7 license, it worked for MJ 8 but will not work with MJ 9.

Also, MJ 8 and MJ 9 will not run on the same machine.  Uninstall MJ 8 before installing MJ 9.

DFX should work.  If it doesn't, we will fix it early next week and release an updated version of MJ 9.

Thanks for hanging with us...

This is confusing.
Elsewhere and in the MJ 8 to MJ 9 FAQ, it says there's no need to uninstall MJ 8.
So which is correct then?

Matt and the FAQ are basically saying the same thing. I looked at the FAQ; it's not completely clear. The FAQ does say there's no need to uninstall, but should probably also say to let the installer uninstall your old version. It might also include the fact that they can't be run on the same machine.  ?

The installer should uninstall your old version, so you shouldn't have to do it manually.  The key is to not try to run both versions on the same machine.

There may still be some kinks in the system, since 9.0 is a beta.

Hang with us and we'll get things right...

I downloaded and installed ver. 9. I then discoved my license for ver. 7 would not work. I wish that had been made more clear.

I uninstalled ver. 9 and tried to reinstall ver 8. Now I get an error saying my data base is too new for this version. After an hour of this, I'm a bit frustrated.

So, since I bought ver 7.x I'm out of luck here? I'm expected to pay the full price for the new version?

Now to figure out how to delete the data base and start over again. What fun this is.

Your old database was backed up automatically when you installed v9.  See the FAQ on switching between 8 and 9.  First thread here.  Your license will work with v8 from our downloads page.

There are two threads open now on upgrading.  I'm going to close this one.  Please post in the other one.  Copy and paste if necessary.
