Hi all,
I would appreciate if you anybody could provide me the answers to the following problems:
Before that, please let me know if my understanding of MC is right or not.
First one has to create a library (new one) and locate where the mp3 files are.
Secondly, create playlists when the library is open.
This will ensure even if the mp3 files are changed location, the library update feature will get it back and playlists will function properly. Is all of the above right?
1. I tried to create a new library and loaded the library and tried to import media by locating that particular drive, but the importing takes forever. It does shows 'searching...Files: 0"
It creates couple of files like jmd playlists etc on that drive, but nothing loads up. I tried to do this for a drive with 1000 songs and a drive with 5 songs to see whether the number of songs were a problem. Still it does not work. Can somebody help?
2. Without creating a library, can I still create playlist and carry on?
3. I did not use the default 'import media' when I first installed the program. Is there a problem? and b'cos of that above said, new library is not working?
ANy help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Not play lists external to MC (Like m3u play lists) you would need to export a new playlist from MC for external play lists to be updated.
If you have no files in the MC library you can create a external play list that points to a file, and you would need to use the option open option, you can also dbl click on it (i just tried it) you will need to allow MC to have the external play list extended accociated with MC however.
I just tried it and it worked.
why would you not want to import the files list into MC i have no idea why, and why you would want to manualy create a playlist when you can do it in MC leaves me scraching my head.

Hi KS,
You have been helping me a lot. Thanks. You did answer my other q also.
What I tried is to create a new library byt going to File>library>library manager> add
In that I specified a new directory, but it wouldn't import any media from it.
It just keeps searching and no files are found.
please help.
thanks.

Try:
File, Library, Import Media
Make sure You Select The Media Extenders You Wish To Import.

Hi KS,
I did as you said, it does not import. So what I did is re-installed the program. And let it scan/import all the media from a drive.
Then from that I created a new library and cloned from the default library.
Thanks.

PLEASE HELP!!
I am trying to create a new library for my music files located in D:/music
I went on like this:
file>library>library manager> then add and added new library and asked it browse d:/music.
Then said load. And then file>library>import media
started search--but it does not import media. shows Files 0. Can somebody please help? (file extensions are default-points to mp3 files and I have 1000's of mp3s in that folder)
I have to use TASK MANAGER to end MC program as it would not respond to 'cancel' when it is searching.
Que 1: Why am I unable to create a new library?
Do I really need it, as when in installed the program it asked me to locate the media drive and I located D:\ So the default library has all my media files.
Que 2: How do I move all my playlists and library along with MC to a new computer? (without loosing my playlists etc)
PLEASE help. Kind of getting to a point where I am exhausting the demo period and afraid to buy the program as it is kind of hard for me to figure out.
thanks.

When you do the import, use the browse button to find a directory that has just a few files. Import them.
Does it work?
If not, do you have the mp3 file type checked on import?
When you move to a new machine, import the files again. There are other ways, but they are harder. Try a search here if you want to find out more.

Hi JimH,
thanks for the reply. Yes I have mp3 files on the folder and I checked the mp3 before browsing. so this beta version 90 or something (forgot) had problem for me.
Today I installed this new beta version.
I got this error. I was trying some beta version for the last several days and today I installed the 10.01 beta version on top of it without uninstalling.
Now I get 'Critical ERROR# 31' and the program shuts down.
PLEASE help what it is?
(a good thing with this version: it is able to import files without problem)

There is no 10.01 version. Please copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.
What are you doing when you get the error?
-
Here is the system info:
Media Center 10.0.100 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\

This is so strange: now that error # 31 is not coming. It stopped by itself. after shoing couple of times earlier.
Still I am not clear about 'importing' files to a new computer. What if i have already created several playlists and library. In the new computer if i put the mp3s in a different directory than the old computer, will the playlists work?
