Title: How do you create a playlist in Theater View?
Post by: Magicland on March 28, 2004, 04:16:06 pm
I searched the forums, but didn't find anything covering this. I'm having SERIOUS problems creating a playlist in Theater View. I'm browsing to where I want to add music from, selecting "begin selection", selecting the albums (or songs) I want added ("x"'s appear in the selection boxes), I select "Enqueue", it says it's enqueuing them, I switch to "playing now", and they're all listed there. However, when I select "play" (either from the menu or via remote), a totally different group of songs (different albums/artists) starts playing than the ones I've just selected. Even with "playing now" open and displaying the thumbnails of what I've selected, when they're played, a different group of thumbnails replaces them and plays. What is going on here, how can I avoid it, and how can I get it to play the music I want it to?

Are you pushing 'Enter' on the play button in Theater View, or pressing a play button on your remote?

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Thanks for any other tips.

I've just tried it with my main computer (MC10.0.100), as the other computer is hooked up to the TV and uses a remote. Entered Theater view, cleared "playing now", made selections, enqueued them, checked "playing now", files were listed, and no other files were listed. Clicked "play" button with mouse, First song started playing (a second or two maybe), immediately crossfaded out and the entire playlist was replaced. The same thing happens on the other computer (mc10.0.98) whether I use the remote to press the "play" button on the Theater mode interface, or just press the button I've assigned as "play". Two different systems, two different (but similar) versions of MC, two different control interfaces (mouse and remote), identical results. Interestingly enough, if you click on the "playlists" button, the playlists I made are listed under "recent playing nows", and can be played from there just fine. Hope this helps. If there's any other info you need, or anything else I can do to help, just let me know.

Just tried a few things to get this to work. Went to "tools", "options" (from the standard display) selected "General" and under the "behavior" section I changed "play button" from "play visible files (all)" (I think that's the default) to "play playing now". This really shouldn't make a difference, since I had "playing now" selected, and everything that was visible was selected and enqueued. After making this change if I'm in "playing now" in Theater view, it plays the playlist I created (which it didn't before). If I go back to the main Theater view selection window and hit play, it makes a new playlist which replaces the files I'd selected. I'm not sure if this is the designed behavior or not, but knowing this, I can live with it (if I can teach it to my wife). Before (with the default settings) it was replacing the playlist I made even if I was displaying "playing now", which is just counter-intuitive.
