Title: New feature request for next version (original)
Post by: Robert Taylor on April 02, 2004, 07:53:24 pm
Is there any possibility for some future release to include:

Please JRiver? I personally think that MC has now reached a level of stability and richness of feature set that some of these less mainstream ideas could be incorporated into the product.

These features really only apply to those of use who use the client/server feature of MC, but there must be a few of us by now. Any one else like the idea of these features?

BTW The latest build I just installed (106) is looking really polished, I can't believe the speed improvements. Congratulations!

Big time!

I use Media Server all the time. Unless Apple comes out with a 600 gig iPod, it will continue to be one of the more useful "Advanced" applications currently available in Media Center.

Sign me up for both ideas!

As far as the Server goes.  I REALLY want to be able to manage 2 or 3 libraries against the same database.  I use my laptop at work, and have my settings for that situation, and also want to be able to enjoy the same database, with a different library at home.  I would want my playlists and smartlists to be interchangeable between the machines, but more importantly, I want tage changes to be automatically updated to both/all libraries.  If I rate 100 songs at work, I want the home machine to reflect these changes, automatically.

Also, I want to have mp3 versions of my ape files loaded on my laptop (eventually an iPod) and be able to have changes I've made to either version of the file propogate to the other location automatically.

Fingers crossed.

Yeah, thanks you guys for highjacking my thread!

I had two replies which were actually about my initial post...(thanx Quisp and JustinChase)

Did the initial post indicate that this thread was supposed to be a general discussion about "wants" for the next version?

Can you guys read? Are you too lazy to create your own post?

Feel free to create your own post listing what you'd like to see, instead of sheep-like jumping on someone else's bandwagon. I was trying to get some picture of whether people are interested in the features I specified in my post, not what everyone else thought was a good new feature...

The problem with a whole pile of people jumping into your post like this is that the whole initial thrust of the thread dissappears into the murk...

Lunch,
Your thread is restored.  It's yours again.

Other posts are moved to a new thread.

Why thank you Jim...

I wasn't expecting you to have to take this sort of action. I wanted to make the point to people that lumping a whole pile of stuff in a post like this has certain negative effects.

Anyways, my post is clean again (even if it only garnered 2 replies)...

Maybe there isn't really much interest in these features after all...

If I reply a whole bunch of times, will that count?  I REALLY want this to happen.

I could certainly use both the features proposed - running Media Server as a Windows service, and multi-access from the client. Probably some tighter integration with the remote web-server would be a good idea as well.
