Title: Web GUI
Post by: earcandy on April 06, 2004, 12:29:01 pm
Is there anyway to interact with Media Center 9.1 via a web interface? It may already be possible. If so, I would appreciate any feedback or instruction.

Thanks

nope, not possible. you can use media server, with a copy of the program running on both machines though

Actually, there is a web GUI built into MC 9.1 and MC 10.0.

Look in Options > Startup and enable "Remote server"

Then hit your computer (192.168.0.1:80 or whatever your IP address is) with a browser and work away :)

There are also some great 3rd party apps that expand on this functionality you may want to play with.  Glissando and NetRemote to name a couple.

Thanks for the info, Matt. Got it to work okay. Any chance you might be working on a nicer interface. Possibly, a little more of a polished look.

Thanks,
Craig

Matt,

I never knew anything about this, looks pretty cool.

Is this potentially a way for me to manage my music while "on the road".

Specifically, I am planning a round the world trip, and I'm probably taking an iPod.  I figure I can't get all of my music to fit on the iPod before I leave, and I'll probably want to 'mix it up' some while on the road.  Could this interface be made to facilitate this type of thing?

We use a simple text interface because it works on lots of devices then.

For a fancy interface, check out Glissando or NetRemote.

And JustinChase, this isn't really for managing music -- just controlling one copy of MC running somewhere.  Media Server might allow you to do some of what you want though.

I run a web server on my machine....so when I type in the IP i get my homepage.  Is there any way to see the media server when it's setup like this?

starflyer,

You might need to assign a different port to one or the other (other than the default HTTP port 80).

Hello,

I'm also looking for something like this. What I would like to do is control Media Center from the remote server on a Mac. I can already do that with a browser connection. But, I would really love to have my Cover Art displayed on this web page.

Does Glissando support Media Center? and can it be run from a Mac?

If not, how about the ability to display a simple track info page w/album cover from the remote server?

Thanks for your time.
