Used the install code and I get error message.
would you like to share it?
-
What the code I used? Its the same one you emailed me. I'll post it if you think there is something wrong. But why won't the wizard install the download from your site?
-
Please don't post your Registration Code or your Install Key. We will revoke the license if it is posted.
He was asking what the error message was.
I work for JRiver. KingSparta works for his wife.
Please post the version of MC you are using.
-
error we could not find that license
-
What version of MC? What city do you live in?
-
It was 9.something that I had. Live in Mpls same as you. I could bring the code to your office. Went by there today
-
KingSparta works for his wife.

I think it was version 9. It was the last one before you had to pay to upgrade I think. And why can I download the 30 day version, but can't get the wizard to install it?
-
Start by downloading this version and installing it.
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter9_1.exe
-
Same thing. It downloads but no wizard to install it.
-
Are you using IE browser?
-
yes
-
What do you mean by "no wizard".
When you download the file, it is an executable file. If you find it in Windows Explorer, just double click on it.
Exactly what happens next?
-
Did you try clearing your temp files? Run IE and do Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Delete Files.
-
When I download the player the installation wizard should come up after and walk you through the install. Thats how it has always worked before. I checked windows explorer and it's not in there. I'm new to computers so I don't know all the tricks yet, but it has always worked before.
-
Tried clearing temp files No go
-
Can you find the file you downloaded in Windows Explorer?
What is the name of it?
-
media center 9_1
-
If you double click on it, what happens?
-
It starts loading. you can see the bar graph loading the program to bring up the wizard, and then just disapears
-
Try freeing up disk space.
-
Got 2 120 gig hardive and just reinstalled windows. The drives are almost empty. Something is real strange here.
-
Did you try downloading again? Don't use a download manager.

This problem has happened to quite a few users, including me. I've had it happen with several versions of MC, on several flavors of Windows.
The problem (if I am on the right track in the first place) is that the self-extracting package extracts its contents, but does not launch the actual setup executable after doing so. This is probably due to a bug in the packager. Here is my proposed workaround (note that a "workaround" is a different thing than a "solution"):
1) Download the file to a known directory (that is, click the download link and select "Save" rather than "Open").
2) Open an Explorer window and double click the downloaded EXE file. You will get a "Media Center setup" dialog, with a progress bar. This dialog will just disappear without launching the setup file... don't worry.
3) Click Start, then Run, type "cmd" (without quotes) in the Open box, and click OK. A command prompt window will open.
4) Type this command in the command prompt window:
echo %temp%
Hit Enter after typing the command. This command will simply tell you what your Windows temp directory is. It will likely spit out the following:
C:\WINDOWS\Temp
-or-
C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Local Settings\Temp
5) Open an Explorer window, and navigate the the directory that was spit out in step (4) above ("C:\WINDOWS\Temp" or whatever). There should be a subdirectory there named something like "RarSFX0". Open that subdirectory.
6) You should see a file named "InstallWizard.exe". Run this file to launch Media Center setup.
Of course, instead of doing steps (4) and (5), you could simply search the Windows drive for the "InstallWizard.exe" file. Whatever works for you.
I hope that helps. It has worked for me every time this problem cropped up.

That's a good guess. The bug may be in Windows though.
I think it's because this folder gets full and then nothing else works.
C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Local Settings\Temp
The Rar folders there contain installation temp files for MC. Deleting a few of them should also work.
-
Ok Thanks cryst. That installed MC9.1 I still can't restore my license. Error We could not find that license.
-
Send me an e-mail with your name and address, and I'll check your license.

Also, go to MC Help / System Info and then paste it here.

I don't think it's a Windows bug (though I know lots of problems are). I haven't had this issue in a long time, but it started happening again, out of the blue, a few MC 10 beta builds ago (121 or something like that). I clear out my temp folder constantly, so it's not that.
