Sometimes when I double-click on a video file such as a *.wmv file, this message comes up...
"Error restoring Media Center license: Failed extracting license from file."
MC still shows as being registered when I look at it in the "About Media Center".
What is going on ?

Hi Doc,
Just a guess - sounds like the file associate for those are wrong. Does it happen
on ALL wmv's? Or just some?

Hi John;
Yes, I had already discovered the file association problem. Seems that something (or some other program) is stealing associations as this has happened before. After re-associating *.wmv to MC it will be ok for awhile but sooner or later the problem will come back.
What I don't understand is if the *.wmv is associated with another program why does MC come up with the "Error restoring Media Center license: Failed extracting license from file."? Seems to me, that only the other program should load & run the wmv file & MC should be out of the loop at that point ?

Seems to me it should be out of the loop too, but I'm not an expert at file associations. Try to figure out who's stealing the associations and that may provide a clue.

It's likely to be Windows Media Player.

Don't you just love it when these things happen ?
