Title: Media Server - What do clients share?
Post by: sixdoubleo on April 13, 2004, 12:46:46 pm
I have two MediaCenter machines at my house, with all my music on a server.  I am thinking of running the Media Server.  If I do this, I have some questions.

What exactly gets shared?  JUST the database?  What about playlists?

Is there anyway I can create a custom view and have it pushed out to all the clients?  Or must each client have its view configured separately?

The database includes playlists and view schemes, and these are shared.

Can you create views and playlists on the server from the client?  If so, is this controllable?

How about importing new media?  Must you do this at the server or can a client initiate it?

For the moment, anything created on the client disappears after the client closes. Hopefully we'll change this soon.

OK, I noticed that.  I tried to create a playlist on the client, and then later tried to send a song to the playlist and it was in there as "undefined" or something....
