Title: Restore page won't send me my Registration code
Post by: Monkeyboy on April 13, 2004, 03:24:44 pm
I have lost my registration code and need a new license. When clicking on the link that should e-mail me my registration code and putting in my e-mail address, I get a confirmation but don't get the e-mail with the code. I have done it twice now and waited about a day.

Is this service working?
Cheers
Rich

Yep, it's working. Check your spam filters.

Thanks for the prompt repsonse.
I don't actually have any spam filter, I don't get much spam at all.
I have tried again and got no reponse, I guess it should take less than 5 minutes.
Any way you can manually trigger the e-mail I promise i'll keep it safe this time  ;)

Cheers
Rich

(maybe i'll suddenly get about 5 that have been caught up somewhere :))

It says it sent the e-mail. I sent you a test message, let me know if you get it.

Something is holding up the emails - I got one a few hours ago for a new entry on the forum which was added yesterday, 24+ hours earlier.  Yahoo will be green with envy, they're not in the same league!  :D

Actually, I just (today) got an email for a thread I was watching 2 months ago.  The last post to that thread was in February.

thanks for trying to help John, I haven't recieved an e-mail.
I asked someone to send me one to see if I was getting any and it does appear to be working.
just noticed it seems some people are getting some problems with e-mails too.
I can't live without MC!

I just sent a second test. The first test had an attachment, this one doesn't. I wonder if you are unable to receive e-mails with attachments?

I actually have a mjr file in my inbox but its run out. I think I deleted my original reg code e-mail thinking it was in the e-mail with the mjr file attatched.
I haven't got the e-mail and am quiet sure I can recieve attatchments as I have been for years.
Thanks again for your persistence in trying to sort the problem

no, been through that with John  ;)
I just got a license, i'm guessing one of the MJ crew triggered that as it not an e-mail containing my reg code, just the license.

Did you ever visit the restore page?

If so, maybe you used an old Registration Code?

That's all I did to e-mail you the license.  I just plugged in your Registration Code.

I did visit the restore page, but I lost my reg code.
I went to the bit where it says it will e-mail you your reg code if you have forgotten it and put in my e-mail but never got it.
Maybe this part of the service is not working?

Maybe you put in a different e-mail address.  That would explain the problem.

LOL, maybe, but I think I know my own e-mail address, and I have done it about 5 times now  :-\

I've sent 4 test messages now, including one from a non jriver address. Did you get any of those?

I am not sure if the system does this but:

I would think that when a user puts in a wrong e-mail address, that the system should check the database, and if that e-maill address is not in the database that it should come back and tell the users.

That e-mail Address Was Not Found In Our Database, Please Use The Currect E-mail Address.

Or something like that, and that would not keep the user guessing.

however that would not be 100% since another site i was trying to use, has never sent me a password to get in, and repeated attemps i still get nothing.

of course all users must check to make sure all spam blockers are turned off, this includes all ISP's that block what it thinks is spam.

then it sounds like if the server is sending it out and i just checked

Quote
Your Registration Codes have been mailed. It may take a few minutes for delivery. After you receive them, please return to the restore page to complete your license restoration.

and this is what i got:

Here are the Registration Codes associated with your email address:

JRiver, Inc. Media Center 10: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx, 14 restores left
JRiver, Inc. Media Jukebox 8: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx, 13 restores left
JRiver, Inc. Media Center 9: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx, 13 restores left
JRiver, Inc. Slide Show 1.0: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx, 15 restores left
JRiver, Inc. Media Jukebox 8: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx, 15 restores left

so since the server is working it would seem to me that the problem is with his ISP or his e-mail client.

============================

this is what you get when an e-mail is not found.

Error

We could not find that email.

Monkeyboy, maybe you should set up a hotmail.com mailbox and ask J River to send the mail to there -- I received my activation code via hotmail with no problem.

Thanks for trying to help guys, I am actually using a hotmail account. I recieve e-mails from people everday, including the license file you sent Jim.
I have not recieved any of the 4 test e-mails you have sent, however but after some other people have tested the page am sure it must be an e-mail client problem.
I don't get the error e-mail address not found when I put in my e-mail into the page I get the confirmation message.
Doesn't really make sense

Hi Rich,

To help out: I sent e-mail from two different mail machines (one work, one home) so this really indicates a problem on your end (my home e-mail does not go through the JRiver network).

Also, I have not yet received a bounce from any of the 4 messages, though bounces can take a week or more if the message is stuck in a queue somewhere.

Talk to your ISP about viruses. There's been so many viruses lately that many are tightening up what e-mail is allowed. Make sure that they aren't helping you filter.

Thanks John,
I am using a Hotmail account and they don't usually block anything unless told to do so.
I changed my junk mail filter to off and tried the page again and it worked, I guess the settings do something after all!
I don't understand what I got the license e-mail yet didn't get the reg code one

This is one of the first things I should have checked and am sorry for wasting your time trying to sort it. I didn't believe the "slack" setting on hotmail junk mail filtering would stop this e-mail getting to me.

thanks for all your help
Rich

i did find out one other problem with another site and it would not send me my info, it had to do with my system date was wrong (i sometimes change it).

I don't think J rivers server does that but the other site checked my system date and the server discarded the request.

I didn't know any servers went as far as looking at your system date. Mine is correct however.
At least its all working now, I have turned off the filter completely so i'll probably get loads of spam now  :)
cheers King
oh, there was something I was going to ask... now MC10 is out are you planning to update your plugins, I noticed they are unstable on the new version.
For example if you are running the lyrics finder and go back to playing now, MC crashes.
Great Plugins btw

here is the fix, don't do that when the plug-in is working. it has something to do with you exiting before the loop completes.

that bug has been in there for sometime, and has nothing to do with MC10

hehe, nice fix  ;) maybe its just cause I used to set it running and leave it not want to look at playing now.
Thanks King.

Please update your program and report the program version you have.

When did you purchase.  The install key you get is good for 14 days but you can use your restore key to get another.
