I know this must've been addressed before, but what's the story with adding large numbers of files to Playing Now? I'm assuming this is the problem that Cinemar's MusicLobby users have tried to circumvent by creating schemes minimizing the number of files shown.
Anyway, simply adding a large number (a couple thousand -- maybe less -- I haven't tested to find a lower limit) of files to Playing Now causes the CPU usage to jump back & forth between whatever & 100%, making MC sluggish in all respects. Clearing Playing Now will return things to normal. Adding an even larger number of files (again, not sure how many) will totally peg the CPU and cause MC to completely stop responding, requiring a forced quit.
If it matters, all of my files are in APE format, accessed from a RAID5 server across a GigE network. I'm using yesterday's build (10.0.112).
I'd love to find out what's behind this, and more importantly fix it -- there have been a few times I've accidentally overloaded Playing Now, killing MC, and causing me to have to get out of bed and force quit/restart... ;)
Thanks,
Brent

Are any 3rd party plugins running?
MC should be able to handle 100's of thousands of files in Playing Now without a problem.

Matt,
Music Lobby Server is the only one. I can't say that I've tried stopping it. Could that be it? That would suck...

I'll answer my own post...looks like if I stop the MusicLobby Server, I can add all 29,462 of my tracks to Playing Now with no problem at all. I'll take it up with Cinemar. Thanks, Matt!
