I'm spending literally hundreds of hours, individually moving and connecting each of my album's Cover Art to a new drive.
There must be some way to automate this task, yes?

Yes
I already Sugested A Work Around.
As A Mater Of Fact Two or three Of Them.
-
I know you have, but at least one of them doesn't work unfortunately unless you have your files named in a one certain way - which I don't.
I tried each suggestion you made, none worked, and THAT's why I'm sending another plea to the MC maven's.
Believe me, I wouldn't waste everyone's time if they DID work.

for someone who hasnt been following the problem can you give me the highlights?
-
I have found that if the cover art image is in the same folder with the music files, then only the filename gets stored in the MC database - instead of the full path.
So when I move location of the folders outside MC, the image path stays correct, because there isn't one. I still have to make search and replace inside MC for the changed music file paths, but that's not a big deal.
My problem is that there is no way to automatically store downloaded cover art in the music folders. I might start a new topic to request that.
-
if the images are stored by artist name and album name then MC will find it.
If users create there own skeam it will not.
and what format are you saving your pictures in?
=====================================
if they are in the format MC understands
Artist - Album
all you need to do is change the Cover art folder path in MC
clear the paths for all files (mc will not over write a path, or it did not once, a bug i feel)
select search internet for cover art, slect combo and select local off line search.
and it does not take long.
-
King,
That's true. But in my case I need to keep everything relevant to the album in the same folder. Besides the covert art (named indeed "artist - album.jpg") there are often other images (inlay, booklet), videos, text files (e.g. artist bios, lyrics, reviews). I may need to access that folder with other software too. I don't like the idea of having hundreds of cover art images in one MC specific folder, even if they are named correctly and easily found by MC.

Unfortunately I collected about 500 albums well before I found MC, King. The Cover Art was input by internet searches, scanning and naming, and who knows how else. Every file has a different naming scheme. Changing 500 of them is no faster than copying each Cover Art File to my new Hard Drive Folder, and then going into each album's tags, finding, and finally attaching the new file, with it's new path, to the album. I can do this chore at about 30 files an hour. It is a major pain!
It would seem that a search and replace in the image file name tag would allow me to compress my work time to say 10 milliseconds ;D

so if you had something that looked in the album folder for
"Artist - Album.Jpg" and maybe "folder.jpg" as most users use would fix the problem your having?
-
Sometimes "Artist - Album.jpg" just isn't suitable. For example, if I have a 3 disk set with albums
The XFM Remix Album CD1
The XFM Remix Album CD2
The XFM Remix Album CD3
I'd need three identical image files. Some tracks just don't have cover art, so I assign them to a file called "White_label.jpg". Lots of packages have Album and Album (bonus disk). You end up with a lot of repetition.
All this would cease to be a problem if JR would reintroduce the Find and Replace on image file that used to exist in 8.0. You could just move them to a different place and F&R all the tags to point to the new place.

I think A Plug-In Could Be Made To Do This.

Actually no, King. There's NOTHING in the album folders that's anything like "Artist - Album.Jpg" OR "folder.jpg". These are albums that were put on my hard disk over many, many months; well before MC came along. For EACH album (of mp3s) I did an internet search or scanned an actual CD insert and named the jpg in a haphazard fashion.
What is needed is a search and replace in the Image File tag that will universally change, for e.g., C:\JRiver\CoverArt\MYALBUM.jpg to E:\CoverArt\MYALBUM.jpg

not sure why J river changed this.
let me think about it, and if J river does not state any reason for not doing it maybe i can make a small plug-in to do this.

Barry,
Not sure if this has been suggested before, but there is a Find and Replace option under Library Tools. I don't have my copy of MC in front of me, but I'm pretty sure you can do a search, just in Image, and basically do what you want. What it should do is rename the files, effectively moving them from the old directory (C:\JRiver\CoverArt\) to the new directory (E:\CoverArt\)
I hope this is helpful.

Image File Path is not one of the fields included there. It's not an editable tag in MC.

I'm not sure about a kiss, but I'd give you a big hug.

if J river does not say anything by COB maybe this week end i can whip something up.

Image path used to be editable.
I did it myself not four months ago with great success.
Why has it been removed?
-
don't know, seems weard to me.

Bless you my Son/Father/Friend/Program Guru/Good Guy/Moderator.
I have a Working Copy of it
just put in the field name
what your looking for (needs to be the same case)
what you want it changed to.
need a few days to play with it however (maybe tomorrow).
