Title: Linksys G router
Post by: bjsolem on April 15, 2004, 02:20:07 pm
I'll be hooking up my new Linksys wireless g router this weekend.

It'll be hooked up to 2-3 laptops.

Someday I want to get my stereo / tv hooked up to some type of media receiver as well.

Does anyone have any lessons learned from their experience that they want to share?

Any tricks I need to know to get maximum performance out of my network?

Thanks.

Linksys has a good web site with lots of basic info.

Be sure to turn on encryption on all devices so the neighbors aren't watching what you're doing.

SSID (name of the network) has to be the same on all.

Dont put it close to your 2.4 gig cordless phone, or your microwave.

i have the linksys wireless g and for the most part its acceptable, surfing and the like. But for video it can be really slow. I would put wire for any desktops or htpc's but for my laptops its nice to have wireless.

I forgo the encryption and just turn off broadcasting and add mac address verification.
