My choice is DFX. ;D.
-
None...with EQ off.
-
No processing here. I play with EQ and all processing (except Replay Gain) turned off.

The High Frequency Stimulator DirectX plugin works very well for me. It is free:
http://www.directxfiles.com/manufacturers/rgc_HFstim.htm
To use it you need to download the DirectX host plugin:
http://accessories.musicex.com/mediacenter/accessories.php
(It's a DSP plugin, the DirectX host)
What specifically are you trying to do with an enhancement plugin? Is there any particular situation/effect you are trying to deal with?

I have dl/installed this, but don't know what to do next to use it from MC. What do you do once it's installed?
Thanks

DFX 6.4? Where can I find that? On the internetsite of FXSound the latest version for MC is 6.1.

Download and install the DirectX host.
Download and install the HFStim plugin.
Start Media Center.
Go to Player/Playback Options/DSP Studio
Tick the checkbox next to DirectX Host
Click the big + in the DirectX Host window
Select rgcAudio High Frequency Stimulator
Click "Add" button
Enable the checkbox for the High Frequency Stimulator
At the top of the HFStim plugin window there is a dropdown menu with multiple presets - the MP3 one works well for me. Be aware that sometimes the window does not refresh even though the settings are in effect.
Enjoy - it really brightens up MP3s.
Note that the interface for the DirectX host is basically letting you select and arrange multiple filters, which will be applied in sequence. The up/down arrows let you modify the sequence.
www.directxfiles.com has a very large collection of DirectX filters, many of them free.

As soon as you have the DirectX plugin up & running, of course you need to install the Izotope Vinyl plugin: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/
This one will have a significant effect on your musical experience, and will impress your friends.

hi!
i installed all the plugins/progs you mentioned but everytime i check the directX host checkbox my music starts stuttering, it works fine without this being checked , any ideas (btw i use ASIO as an output)

My vote for best regardless of price (US$299) is Izotope Ozone DX
http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/ (http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/)
They have plugins for auido players and the one for Winamp works in MC. It just is not as capable as the full Ozone DX.
My vote for most useful free plugin is the High Frequency Stimulator DirectX plugin . The link to that already appears in this thread.

Is it possible to us SRS CSII plug-in (the one they sell for Windows Media Player 9)?
-
I have to congratulate LisaRCT too for introducing us to the HFStim plug in. Other than that I actually think that MC's built in EQ is pretty good as long as you don't go overboard and stick to subtle changes from the flat line. In fact this is way better than DFX which is pants IMO.

gpvillamil,
very cool plugins, many thanks. Definitely worth playing around with.
-
BTW gpvillamil,
You don't know if there is a slowdowner / pitch-changer plug-in, right? You know, one of the cool features of jetAudio is that one. For musicians, it's a must.

hi GHammer !
i dl the demo for ozone and im pretty lost with all the options...i dont know to much about sound enhancement plugins but form what ive heard they are suppose to bring back some of the stuff that are lost in mp3's during the encoding...which options in ozone do i need to check in order to do that since there seems to be so many options that are useless to me (such as the bad phone connection option... :P ?)
thx alot in advance to any help

Did you get the full plugin Ozone 3, or the WinAmp plugin?
I'll assume you have Ozone 3.
Start a few selections playing.
Open the MC DSP Studio.
Click DirectX Host
Make sure iZotope Ozone 3 is selected.
Now you should have the Ozone 3 panel active.
Make sure it is active by 'pushing' the Bypass button. You'll be able to tell when it is active.
When it is active, push the Presets button.
Choose any of these, listen to the playback.
What do you like? And after getting one you like or one that is close to what you like you can tweak the adjustments if you like.
For my taste and speakers, I start with Rock Master 4 Band with Excitation, Eq, and Widening.
For better info on what can be a confusing process, look at the Ozone help while you have the Presets open.

Let me know if this helps or not.
