I just purchased media center 10 today, after installing build 121 it said my trial had expired so i went to the purchase page and boght a license. I tried to open the program and it said the license had expired. It gave me the option of restoring from a file or the internet, i tried to restore from a file first this didn't work, then i tried to restore online, i put in the access code from the email and it tried to install the license but immediately the license expired message popped up.
I am very frustrated at the moment...
please help me listen to my music,
Kain

Make sure you're using IE.

I use firefox, but i did try ie as a last resort it doesn't work in either case. My system date is correct as well.
do i have any other options can you send me a new license file, is this a bug?

I have also tried installing the released version of MC10 i think it was build 110. Nothing is working, it just keeps saying my license has expired.

Are you running the file that is emailed to you?

yes

OK I just did a full uninstall and then rebooted and went through and deleted every instance of media center and j river in the registry. I reinstalled and yet it still says that my trial period is over... so there is a key somewhere in the registry that is corrupt or something which I cannot find. I then tried to use the license i was email and it still says that the license has expired.
I really need some help to get this working guys. Any ideas about the registry would be helpfull, i just want to get it working for now and then work out the license issue once i am up and running again.
Thanks,
Kain

It sounds like you need to use a restore and get a fresh email with a new license.

I just confirmed that the problem is not in the license file. Installed media center onto my other machine and it installed the license file fine. There is some problem with one of the registry values that media center is accessing which keeps telling it that the file has expired, i have tried getting new license files and that hasn't worked.

OK I ran Norton reg check and it seems to have fixed the corrupt registry entry. The only problem with that is I have no idea how it became corrupt or which file became corrupt, but it is working so i am happy.
Thanks for all of the suggestions guys.

there are many un-explained things in this world.

This may be irrelevant, but it came to mind.
I installed a bad program that mucked up my file associations (the "MKW Audio Compression tool." It was a good reminder not to install things that I don't know about.) I removed it and cleaned it out of the registry manually to get rid of artifacts, shell extensions, and other garbage it left behind, but it had one side effect on MC.
(And let me emphasize - I don't consider this to be an MC problem. MC is a bright shining jewel.)
When I click on an mp3 file in Windows Explorer, I get an Information window: "Error restoring Media Center license. Failed extracting license from file."
When I right-click and send the mp3 to MC with "Add to playing now" or the like, it goes fine. When I'm in MC and browse within it to My Computer, it goes fine.
I've restored the license, and dropped the file association from MC and reacquired it. Same error. I haven't completely uninstalled and reinstalled MC because it doesn't matter that much to me.
So I mention it in case it gives you any ideas of another place to look in the registry for license problems. For what it's worth!

Yeah I test a lot of software on my pc, I actually haven't built a dedicated HTPC yet because I am not fully satified with all aspects of the software side. But I have a pc which i basically use as a htpc and let me tell you the registry is screwed hard on that machine. That was the reason it took so long to find out where the problem was, actually norton regcheck found it, so I don;t even know that much. But it is working, and I am sure I will have no issues with my HTPC because I am going to be installing very little to begin with and testing nothing on it basically.
