Hello everyone!
What versions of LAME & WMA encoders are n MC?
-
LAME is 3.93.1 last I heard. No idea on wma.
edit: wma is WMA 8 format
go here...

...and click on Encoder Plug-ins to the left

I've LAME 3.90.3 MX, which is the currently recommended LAME compiler (on Hydrogen Audio), but I might have replaced it. Just run the lame exe in media center\plugins to check.

MC uses LAME.exe if you use External Encoder option and map to it...otherwise it uses Enc_mp3.dll which is 3.93.1

I'm pretty sure Media Center has WMA 9 built in because it has support for WMA lossless and WMA VBR which only became available in WMA 9. Also I ran the built in converter on an MP3 file to WMA and then inspected the resulting WMA file. It reported WM SDK version 9.00.00.2980.
I think the confusion is that the Media Center plug-ins page has an optional download for WMA 8.

Yeah, it is definitely WMA 9.
I remember because it was back during my dial-up days that JRiver deemed it a necessity to include the WMA 9 codecs in the installation package which increased the size by about 4 MB. :-\ (Considering it was already around 8 MB at the time, a 4 MB increase was a lot to a dial-up user, this one anyway.. >:()
