Title: iTunes Audiobooks show up as video files
Post by: tlongacre on May 02, 2004, 07:48:58 pm
I haven't seen anyone else mention this, so I'm wondering if I did something wrong or didn't do something I should have.

I recently bought an audiobook off iTunes. This was the first time I did it this way. I have bought books via Audible (using the Audible client software) and that has worked fine and I've bought songs off iTunes and they have worked fine.

But this audiobook -- an m4b file -- shows up in MC10 as a video file.

I bought the book via iTunes and then just opened MC and dragged if over from the iTunes directory into the Media Library in MC.

What do I need to do to have this be properly recognized?

Thanks.

Audible files are normally ".aa" files.  According to the Audible knowledgebase, however, "Audible books in iTunes are in .aac format."   (m4b is a subtype of the aac format.)  I have no idea why this is the case, but this would explain why downloading from within iTunes would have different results from downloading from Audible Manager (which always gives .aa files.

This, of course, has no bearing on why MC is seeing it as a video file, but I imagine that it's probably a bug that can be fixed.  In the mean time, you might consider re-downloading the file in Audible Manager in order to get an "aa" file instead.  In my experience, you can always re-download files that you've purchased, but I'm not sure if the fact that you used iTunes to make this purchase will effect the situation.

This should be resolved in tonight's build. Thanks.

Oh yeah. I'll try it as soon as I get home tonight.
