Title: Media Jukebox messed up my computer
Post by: messedup on November 16, 2002, 02:58:10 pm
I just installed MJ and now my computer is completely messed.  The usable screen is much smaller and it's flickering.  I uninstalled MJ but it didn't help.  I can barely see it.  How do I get it back?

I don't think this is a MJ Problem

I have never heard of anything like this in the last 2 years.

maybe you should check your video card driver and make sure it is current or reinstall it.

Monitor refresh rate was changed somehow (most likely)

NT/W2k/XP
Right click on a blank area of your desktop...select Properties...go to the Settings tab...move the slider to the resolution you normally use (and color depth to true color)...click on the Advanced button...go to the Monitor tab...change refresh frequency to 72 Hz or better.

W9x and ME procedure is similiar but with a few variations (but you see in principle what to do)

I've noticed that on my machine, whenever I switch MJ to mini-me mode it changes the refresh rate in my display settings.

Any special skin or visualization?  Any plugins running?

I guess I should have said "in the past" I noticed this.

I actually don't use mini-me mode and haven't tried it for quite awhile.  The only reason I've ever switched to it is just out of curiosity to see what a particular mini-me skin looks like.  In fact, I don't use skins in full screen mode either.

I don't have any other display plug-ins installed.  Just the default installation with whatever other encoding and input plug-ins I needed.

Anyway, I just tried switching and nothing happened to the refresh rate.  It looks like it could have possibly been issues with my old graphics card (a geforce that came with my Dell 2 1/2 years ago).  That card recently went on the fritz, so I've recently installed a newer geforce4 mx 440.  8)

Now that were talking about MJ changing screen size like "party Mode" etc.. My Old TNT2 card I had on my other computer had problems with this.

I know that new drivers fixed the problem with that video card.

Yes; my screen size changed.  My system says that my display adapter is:
Intel 810e Chipset Graphics Driver.  Is that what I need to reinstall?  thanks.

I don't know about reinstalling the drivers, but you might try to check if there are updated drivers available, or try to find out if you only have a generic display driver installed and try to find a driver that is for your specific graphics card.  Who did you buy your computer from?  Their website might have info about driver updates, etc.  Also, a lot of times Windows Update will notify you of driver updates.
