Title: Which is the best Gaming Console?
Post by: Matthew on May 04, 2004, 11:23:58 am
Its funny, I never put that "Other" Option. ?
Other consoles like Dreamcast, Saturn,  Atari Jaguar, and N64 are outdated consoles. Its important to be uptodate.

Hmmm, so xbox seems to have the lead. Surprising. I don't play much video games anymore and have been out of the loop for quite some time now. I thought that PS2 was still the Mac Daddy on the block. Has this changed? Is Xbox definitely better?

Just wondering.

Atari 2600

And the best game?

Zork I: The Great Underground Empire, originally released by Infocom in 1978, played on my oldest machine in 1983.

Looks like this:

'West of House
You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.
> ...'

It was endless. And had 126'426 bytes (huge!). Was ported from CPM to DOS, so playable today on XP. And it's free. Take a look at

Far Cry is good, but I love Zork I.

I agree with the Atari 2600 nomination!  It was amazing what they could do while being restricted to games the size of a small text document (something like 4k).

I always thought activision had the best games

space invaders, kaboom, packman, roundup, grand prix

i had many of them.

I also had an odyssey 2

This is the official sequel to the original Odyssey (the first real video game system ever), here's Magnavox's Odyssey 2! This poor man's Atari 2600 featured a new build in keyboard to play some more educational games and you can even edit some of your different games too thanks to all the options the system as.

The Odyssey 2 may be best remembered most for it's Pac Man-like game; KC Munchkin and the Atari lawsuit that followed. Atari took Magnavox to court in 1981 to order Magnavox to discontiune production of KC Munchkin saying it was too similar to there licensed Pac Man game for the Atari 2600 (which kinda sucked anyways) but Atari lost the case and Magnavox quickly increased shipments of the KC Munchkin instead, however, Atari contiuned to countersue and then eventually won and Magnavox was then forced to stop selling the game thus ruining their greatest hit. A shame because KC Munchkin is fairly good game!

Magnavox didn't give up without a fight though against Atari's brutal assault, they just released a sequel to KC Munchkin in 1982 called KC Krazy Chase. KC Krazy Chase not only improved the gameplay (improved radically enough for Atari to leave them alone) but if you had the Odyssey 2 Voice adapter hooked up you can actaully hear KC Munchkin talk turing the game....... how cool is that??

The Odyssey 2 Voice Adapter was not only compatible with certain games but you can also use it with the system keyboard to test the voices out, there was nothing else quite like it for it time and it really made the Odyssey2 look advance.

Despite some nice features about the Odyssey 2, the system is just too old now of days to be taking seriously and some of the games (many of them are cloned Atari 2600games) can really suck. Plus there was virtually no thrid party support either meaning you will not find any games on the Odyssey2 you will know about. "Oh No!"

Overall System Rating: 25/100 I barely play it anymore but it's still better than their CDi game machine

Rare Scale: 6/10 it's getting now rarer because of its age.

I compared Zork to Far Cry. Far Cry is a new game (IMHO). It needs a little bit more space (4 CD's). But the old fashioned Zork (only text, more imagination is needed) was absorbing my time not less. So it's all relative.

And you don't have to buy a new graphic card... ;)

'Fraid I'm really out of the loop as far as games go...still doing Lode Runner, much to the chagrin of my son who has tried everything he can think of to get me to try all his stuff out!!  His field of choice is game design and animation.  But I love Pong!!!  This is just my speed (not too much multi-tasking involved!).
