When I set this up it does not "take." I.e. the chosen program does not appear in the right click "Send to (External)" list. Using Default Editor brings up Paint for images (I want my Paint Shop Pro) and for music files a stuttering Media Centre.
History:
Worked under Win98SE . Upgraded to WinXP. Added "PSP" as named external program, worked OK. Edited "PSP" name in Manage External Tools/External Tools to read "Paint Shop Pro". Right clicked to check result - not there. And now I can't add any external program to the list.
Tried: Restart, reinstall, install newest version.
Baffled!

Just as a work around, could you change the file associations in Explorer so that PSP is the default editor?

Thanks Ian G - but MC always defaults to Ms Paint!
A few clues which might help anyone knowledgable:
1. I have this reg key showing the attempts I have made at implimenting send to external:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\External Tools]
@="|[FILENAME]|"
"Paint vShop Pro"="C:\\Program Files\\Paint Shop Pro 6\\PSP.EXE|[FILENAME]|"
"PSP"="C:\\Program Files\\Paint Shop Pro 6\\PSP.EXE|[FILENAME]|"
"Irfan View"="C:\\Program Files\\IrfanView\\i_view32.exe|[FILENAME]|"
"Media Player Classic"="C:\\Program Files\\Media Player Classic\\mplayerc.exe|[Filename]|"
"Paint Shop Pro"="C:\\Program Files\\Paint Shop Pro 6\\PSP.EXE|[Filename]|"
"P shop P"="C:\\Program Files\\Paint Shop Pro 6\\PSP.EXE|[FILENAME]|"
But no corresponding entries in MC's "send to external" list
2. When I upgraded to XP I copied across my whole "Data" folder when I re-installed.
3. It worked once, then I edited the entry and no entries have appeared since. I used to use it a lot for editing photos.

I'm using a different version of Regedit, but I don't see the entry @="|[FILENAME]|", and I only see single backslashes.
Ian G.
-
Yes, those only show in the exported key - in regedit the @ is (default) and backslashes are single.
It seems that the info gets put in the registry but MC is not seeing it.
-
OK, but I don't see @="|[FILENAME]|" in an export either.

Thank you for persevering with me!
I removed that default registry value of [FILENAME] and up popped my list of external tools in MC!
You have saved me a lot of time and effort.
Thanks again,
Pat.
