Title: How does "Check for updates" work?
Post by: WinoOutWest on May 11, 2004, 01:24:00 pm
Or does it?

I was running v10.116 and picked the "Check for Updates" off the help menu and it returned a "No updates available at this time."

Then I went and manually downloaded and installed v10.130.

It only checks for stable updates -- the same you donwload from the frontpage.  Nighly builds isn't necessarily stable, but there isn't any problemts usually.

right... which begs the question:

Why didn't it detect v.130 and prompt me to download when I was running v.116?

JimH and the JRiver crew decide which builds get added to the "update" notice. Only the builds they put there will show up and prompt you.

Obviously, they didn't feel an update was ready for release. When they do...they will update the notification.

Don't forget these are beta's we see posted here.

You wouldn't want your Grandma downloading a potentially unstable version of MC when she thought she was just getting the latest and greatest update.

(No offense to Grandmas intended.)
