Do you know MC can build a web page for you? Select images and right click on one of them. Choose Send to/Web. Resizing is possible.
It is assumed that you are using FTP to access a web server.
Examples of entries you can use to get to the server:
address: ftp.travelcommentary.com/images
path: jriver
That should put the index.html file and all the thumbnails and images in the jriver directory. If the directory doesn't exist, MC will create it for you, but if its parent directory also doesn't exist, MC will not do anything -- the parent needs to be there.
The page address for viewing would then be something like:
http://www.travelcommentary.com/images/jriver
Use resize before sending.
Here's an example of what gets generated:
http://www.jriver.com/~jriver/2004/santafe/

Sounds great Jim, but I don't understand.
Righ click on what ?
-
Doc,
Select the files you want to use to build a web page and then right click on one of them.
-
I can't seem to get it to work. It says the conversion works fine, but it tells me none of the files were transferred.
I have been messing around with it so much that I now have no files on the server.
Any ideas?
-
It may be really slow.
Try a page with two files. Resize them small (320x240).
Wait. MC isn't putting up a good progress message.
The directories you use must exist (except for the last one -- MC can add it).
Case must match.
-
Chris,
I assumed you were putting files on a remote web server. Maybe that's not what you're doing.

That's very nice! And now the inevitable feature requests :) Thumbnails are only produced for jpegs - could they be produced for all file types (or at least issue a warning)? There doesn't seem to be a limit on the number of thumbnails per page - could a user specified limit be applied, with navigation between pages?

I don't believe that's ever been reported. If it's true (and I assume it is), it's a bug.
-
I think there have been previous requests to be able to send to a local folder so FTP'ing wasn't required.
Then the pics could be burned to a cd with a nice html thumbs page.
Any opinions on this?
Then all mc needs is to be able to start a slide show from the thumbs page and you've got an exportable slide show that you can easily build using MC's powerful organization tools.
To answer your original question, I knew about this, but since I don't ftp to a server, I haven't been able to play with it much. Thinking about getting my own web site for using this feature almost exclusively, but been too busy to get it started.

It's not true! I'm uploading 6 images - 2 each jpg, gif & bmp. The thumbnails are being produced for all of them, the html looks ok, but only the jpg thumbnails are being displayed! I've tried different images, but get the same results each time.

When you say only the jpg's are displayed, what are you looking at them with? Your browser? That could be a browser problem.
-
Chris,

Well, kinda.
It's a different machine than the one my pictures are on, but it's still in my office. It's a LINUX server. I think I just need to mess around with permissions and settings to get it to work. I just had a bad day yesterday, and didn't feel like messing with 'stupid computer problems'.
I'll try again this morning, and see if it's any better.
-
Another PC works fine if you have FTP access to the location where you need to put the files. Sounds like you do.

I'm opening the MC produced index.html in my browser. The .bmp and .gif thumnails show as broken links, the .jpg thumbnails are ok. All the images that are linked to are ok.

It may be a browser problem. Try IE.

I am doing, and it looks like it is a browser problem. I was ftping to my own PC, and then opening the index file via Explorer. Once I accessed them via a web server it was fine!
Sorry to have wasted your time :-[

Ive posted this before, most recently in the image handling feature request thread, and like Ian I do have a few more related ones :).
Jim - I dont expect any confirmation of upcoming features, but it would be useful to know if web uploading suggestions are suitable for consideration under the image handling category.

Yes, please post there.

Where is the image handling board?

Its a thread on this board (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=21248). Sorry, I should have put a link in before.
-
I don't quite get how you specify the directory for it to upload to - I've tried specifying a full path and a relative path to my home directory (as it would default to if you used an FTP client) but they always end up in the root of my webspace! It's like it's not even using the directory specification (which I have definitely created already)
-
Curiously, I also told it to resize them (to the biggest size, but they were much bigger already) and save them at low quality, but whilst it said it had resized them, it actually hadn't, and they were exactly the same filesize as the originals too!
Oddly, with some other photos I chose the medium size and normal quality, and it *did* resize those.
Mind you, this is with 10.0.127 - guess I ought to install the latest...

oh yeah, I'm the first poster on that threqd, oops.

In my example in the first thread, the address is to the images directory in my home directory. The jriver in the next line is a directory under that one.
Pay special attention to slashes, following the example.
When you want to resize, you'll need to check the setting each time you upload. If you don't, it won't resize. This needs work.
-
Anyone who gets this to work, please post a link so others can see. I just added an example to the end of my first post above.
-
Hello, I got it to work but I had some problems too.
MediaCenter told me that the picture was transfered (3 files) but they were not on the server (checked with my "WS_FTP" software and IE).
I tried again with another picture which I chose to resize differently and it worked. But curiously the first picture I tried before appeared too at the original size.
Another thing concerns the text in the big dialog box. When activating "HTML Page" the text I insert is light gray like an inactive text.
PS: Thanks to the JRiver Team for this wonderful piece of software, it's the best and fastest media software I've ever used :D
-
One more thing, I don't know if you wanted this feature, but I tested with a wmv-video file and it works also. You get a Thumbnail image of the video in the index.html and possibility to download the full video when clicking on it.
Simply great 8)
-
Yep, the light grey text is definitely a bit weird.
I can now get it to upload into the right directory, though I think the dialog box for specifying it is confusing - I don't get why I'd specify the final directory separately from the rest of the path - I assumed the "path" box was expecting the whole of the path...
The resizing is definitely not right though - setting it to "Low" for quality it doesn't seem to do anything with the picture.
On the other hand, using normal it definitely ended up resized and a smaller file...

It may also work with audio. It's just building a page of whatever you tell it to.

Cpic Has More\better Options On Building Web Pages From Pictures.
The Interface Kind Of Sucks But It Has Options On How The Index.html shows backgrounds, colors, images, text etc...
I think if MC is going to compet in this area it needs more options\selections.

It is assumed that you are using FTP to access a web server.
What if that assumption is wrong, how do I get these files to my locally housed server without using ftp. My server is jacked, and I can't use ftp.
Is there another way?

Agreed. I think there should be complete customization available. CSS and XSLT are two technologies that come to mind. At the very least, make sure the result is XHTML and consistent.
