Title: Samung YP-910GS and Media Center?!
Post by: GrayGh0st on May 14, 2004, 09:13:34 am
Does Media Center currently, or are they planning on supporting the Samsung YP-910GS mp3 player?? I like MC a lot and would really love to get it working with my mp3 player. Thanks.

Justin,

We do not have this player so I don't know definitively if it will work. If it appears to your PC as a removable or fixed drive, or if it is WMDM compatible, it should work without problems.

The player is in fact recognized by XP as an external drive, however, the unit also maintains an internal database. Napster is the included software for file transfers. Windows Media Player can also be used. Presumably both these programs update the database used by the player. So, where dragging and dropping files to the unit outside these 2 programs works, they are not recognized by the player in a track listing.

WMP's solution for Portables is built on WMDM. If this player works in WMP, we should work as well when WMDM support is enabled.

MC will also allow you to transfer files to this player as an external drive, but from what you report, the files would not be playable with this method because we would not create the necessary changes to the database on the player. WMDM support within MC appears to be the way to go.

Where in MC is the option to enable WMDM support? And thanks for all your help, btw :)

It is in Tools->Options->Devices. If you are interested in a little more info on WMDM as it relates to MC, go here....
