Title: OT POLL: Who is the Bigger Liar? Bush or Moore?
Post by: JimH on May 18, 2004, 07:19:04 pm
Michael Moore made "Bowling for Columbine", about gun control, and (in my opinion) wasn't very nice to Charlton Heston, who was pretty nice to him anyway.

He also made "Roger and Me", a film about Roger Smith, the CEO of General Motors, who was driving the company slowly into the ground.

Now he's made a film about our President.  Disney refused to distribute it.   Speculation was that it was a little biased against our President.

Here's a typical article.  A google search will uncover more.

"The American documentary-maker sent three undercover film crews to Iraq; they returned with footage - included in the film - claiming to show US soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners. If such abuse occurred, then it should be condemned. But no one should rush to judgment on the basis of allegations emanating from Mr Moore."

Wow now that is hillarious, turns out the smarmy not a very nice person who wrote that article owes Moore an apology.  I am pretty sure there was a story about Americans abusing prisoners the other day.  I could be wrong though.

"Michael Moore Hates America" can't wait for that one, what a sad attempt to discredit someone who clearly hates corporations, not America.  IF you love corporations go ahead and love them but don't equate them with America because they clearly are not, though they wish you to think so.

Edit: turns out not a very nice person were the exact words I was looking for.

Jim,

Do yourself a favor and follow the several suggestions that people have made here requesting an off topic forum.  Many, if not most of us come here to discuss MC, not politics (or make accusations).

When I first read this thread, the vote was 2 for Bush, 1 for Moore.  I think you made it clear who you voted for.  Congratulations.

In response to this thread I will say this:

Moore was mean to Charlton Heston?  Wow...  Considering the fact that Heston organizes pro-gun rallies in cities immediately after school shootings, I find it amazing that anyone would find Moore's behavior in the interview inappropriate.

Are you trying to alienate your customers?

When did a forum about music become a Bush bashing political platform?

I like OT topics!!  I vote for more of them.

I don't like Michael Moore but I think GWB is the biggest liar.  :)

I don't think it's Bush bashing any more than it's Moore bashing.  I think one of them isn't telling the truth.

paulr,

I agree with you completely. I was wondering if i was the only one, guess not.  ;D
Don't mix politics with sport and surely not MC with presidents or the situation in Iraq.

I think with a lot of things, the truth is somewhere in between and both parties are exagerating/spinning their POV for effect. I dont think the movie will make a large impact on the voting, those who vote republican will do so and vice versa for democrat.

The US position in Iraq is getting into an interesting phase. Will it be possible to keep the lid from boiling over come election time. Will oil prices still be as high...these are the issues that will determine who gets to be in the White house come november.

I just added another option to the poll:
"This doesn't belong in this forum."

At this point, the vote is Bush 25, Moore 5.

Perhaps there should be a seperate forum for political and religious discussions.

My mother taught me not to discuss either in polite company as it causes hard feelings.

In 47 years, I have found that to be excellent advice.

There are MANY places to go vent your love or hate for whoever. I'd sure like to see this stay a place to talk about music and technology with friendly people.

They're both ridicules. Mr Moore a bit more IMO, though mr Bush isn't that much behind him.

It's not like the European politicians are any better; look at Chirac and Schroeder are any better -- they're running EU's head agains the wall (IMO.)

WOW !!!!

Years ago , this topic would had go with non-stop posts.

But NONE of them would had complain about it was OT., polilic or other.
Things and times change.
New commers chage as well- They want a jukebox forum to speak only about jukebox ect .
Small secure cases in small heads.
Good for JRiver , you got the kind who will rush buying protected music or movies.

Concerning the poll , i have no idea.

I saw one More's movie - The one when he is with the Nike boss at the end of the movie-

I saw him  like the very few people who are sane in your country.
And that give a positive image of a country so many despite in Europe.

Do not know if Bush a liar.
That he is really and deeply sincere in his opinion , vision , this i say yes.

And that is a big danger and a big problem.

Anyway back to real life

How can i got MC10 to make toasts from AW?
Cannot find a way.

This is a safe an clean question
Happy?

And your point ...? Polite company, sure. But this is the MC board!  ;) 8)

Also I had to vote for "I don't know" since I would rate that a pretty close race. Moore goes too far one way (left...), Bush goes to far the other way (right). This is going to be a fun election, guys! Even for somebody halfway across the globe it looks interesting. I think mr. GWB will keep up his father's excellent record: Never overdo a good thing - one period is enough!  ;D

I remember a tv program here in sweden right after the last presidental election... there was an american guy on the streed staring into a reporters camera with a completly emtpy look in his eyes.  He said "Oh my god! we elected a moron for president".

During the last couple of years we have become painfully clear on that :)
Kinda obvious that he has no clue and it is the powerful people behind him that pulls the strings.

Very refreshing to see a company with not only a superior product but a connection with it's customers that allows these types of discussions.

I second the request for an "Off Topic" forum.

When I need some "Off Topic" thinking  I will find it.

When I need some "Media Center" help I will find it.

Its like I tell my daughters:

In School you learn about math, reading, etc

In Church and at Home you learn about our family's religious beliefs

Just my 2 cents

I second that , Mako.  OT means just that, and we are free to check it out or ignore it.  that's the beauty of being an indudivual.  Thanks Mc for letting us be us!    this is the first forum I have ever participated in, because everyone is treated with respect, regardless of their technical knowledge level and their opinions on whatever.  ;D

Off-topic and possibly inflamatory. I second the vote for an OT forum. Those who want OT stuff can go there and those who want to catch up on MC developments (myself included) can decline.
