There's a spiffy new desktop bar from JRiver that gives you quick access to your music (and lots of other useful stuff) at any time.
The latest version of the JRiver Deskbar can be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/tmp/JRDeskbar106.exe
Update 6 Changes / Improvements:
1. NEW: Using the calculator doesn't require any prefixes or command selection -- just type the math in.
2. NEW: Window Key + S toggles the focus to and from the search box.
Installation:
1) You must have MC 10.0.134 or later installed.
2) Run the installer from above.
3) Right-click on taskbar / start menu area and choose Toolbars > JRiver DeskBar (some computers may require a few clicks or a restart for this to show up)
4) Turn off the system clock to save space since the JRiver bar doubles as a clock. Right click on the clock, choose "show properties", then "show clock".
Uninstallation:
1) Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > JRiver Deskbar
Usage:
Select the search box. (Windows key + S / click on it) Type some part of a command until it's selected, then hit space to put a star by it. Then, type the query and hit return.
As an example, to search Google, type "g widget" and hit return.
To play dylan in Media Center, type "p dylan" and hit return.
You can also click with the mouse or use the up and down keys.
To use the calculator, just type in expressions. (example: 3+4 or x=1;y=2;x*y)
Enjoy :)

#1 and 2 are good ones. Thanks Matt.
Now we just need the calc to be able to solce eq's with varibals. IE x+3=2 <=> x=-1, or finding the roots in some polynom. and trig functions.

The problem with disappearing commands continues in version 6. It maybe because I have many toolbars open and I have the start taskbar on the top or the monitor/desktop.
It looks like the JRiver deskar commands are hiding behind the taskbars because the commands open "above" the JRiver deskbar.
Can you set it so they open "down" in this situation?

Is there a command to open MC itself?
I can see add to play and whatnot, but not a open mc ....

You could place a shortcut to MC somewhere in your path. Then you could open it with the Run command.

or you can assign mjextman commands. fx mjextman /Power (I think) will open mc when it's closed and close it when it's open

How about the cosmetics of the Deskbar? It's a great utility but it's a little on the ugly side in my taskbar.(sorry)

I have all the latest goodies and no plug ins...
If I am playing MC, click on the deskbar and goto Now Playing, and then click anywere to close the deskbar box, MC closes.
Also ... If I open MC and then use the play through the Deskbar, it starts to play from the first track in my Library, not were it left off in Playing Now......

When I use the Play command from the bar it will add the appropriate songs but it will not start playing. I have to restore the MC window and press the play button. It is the same behavior as the "Add to Playing Now" command.

Hi
Took me a while to figure out how it works but i think I have it now :)
couple of queries:
1) Is there a way to pause play from the bar, there is play and stop, but no pause.
2) Also if you stop and do play again it won't start up playing again without having an artist name in it.
3) Is there any way to tell it to play a playlist rather than an artist?
4) Finally is there any way to scroll the playing track - artist through the bar rather than the date when MC is playing and the date when its not?
Regards
Mark

How did this get to the bottom of page 2? Is this still a work in progress?

Same exact problem here. I love the deskbar but this problem makes it unusable.

Same problem, with mc crashing.
Also, I request the the bar remembers which tab it was on last time. defaulting to the "commands" tab each time is annoying.
Thanks,
Bri
