Title: Tags for compilation CDs?
Post by: LTE on June 06, 2004, 09:22:17 am
I have a number of compilation CDs that I have put together over time and would like to rip and convert to MP3.  Is there any way to get MC to tag the individual tracks automatically -- i.e., without manually putting in the information.  When I put the CD in and MC it tries to gather the info from YADB, it comes up blank -- for obvious reasons.  If I remember correctly Musicmatch super tagging used to do this automatically.

Thanks in advance for your help!   :)

When you say you put together some compilation CDs, what do you mean ?

Are these compilation CDs one might buy in a store

or

Have you made them yourself, by choosing tracks from others and making a "compilation" CD.

In the former case, it might be that YADB does not have that CD in its database, in which case, you might have to enter it in yourself.  I don't know,  if there are any plugins available that might check databases other than YADB.

In the latter case, i can't imagine its even possible to do any automatic tagging at all.

Thanks for the reply.  I was referring to the latter situation -- i.e., I put together my own compilations from various store bought CDs.  I thought that perhaps the tracks themselves had tags that could be identified even if they were not necessarily in the context of the CD from where they came.

Perhaps this is just wishful thinking on my part, but I was under the impression that musicmatch could do something like that.  Oh well, I guess it's not that difficult to type in the info myself.

If you had "write CD Text" checked when you burned the compilation CDs, whatever was in the track title should be there when you play/rip the CD. Other track tag info such as genre, year, comments etc, would not be there.
