I'm having a problem updating the tags on files that are on my network share. Every time I try to update a tag I get a failure about it possibly being in use (it isn't), or corrupted (it isn't). I know my share settings are fine since they haven't changed in over a year and this worked fine in v9, it's only since I moved to v10 that I've been having a problem. I tried updating to 10.0.145 to no avail. Additionally, other tagging software seems to work on the same files just fine so it appears to be a MC problem. Any thoughts?

Bumping my own post since I stupidly posted on a Sunday :)

Maybe a comment from a dev?

What type of files are you tagging?
If MP3, try turning on / off the ID3v2 option in Plugin Manger > MP3 to isolate the problem.
Also, is there something special about your server? Lots of people use a share for their MP3s, and this isn't a common report. I had NTFS file and sharing permissions give me headaches a while back.
Thanks.

OK, this is interesting. I tried shutting off Id3v1 first but still had the problem, however when I turned ID3v1 back on and shut off ID3v2 instead, the tag update worked....granted it only updated the v1 tags. So it appears to be something with the save of the ID3v2 tags.
As for the share, its a Samba (v3.0.2) share on my Linux server. It has pretty broad security permissions, any decent server admin would probably grimace if they took one look at it, but I like to keep it open to everyone on the network. It's never had a problem with Media Center until now and even now it's only Media Center that has the problem. Other software such as MP3Tag and dare I say it...Windows Media Player can access and update the files / tags on the share without issue.

Still happens in the .146 version :(

Could it be something to do with sharing the current MC library rather than the files themselves?
-
ID3v2 tagging on a Samba server is working for us.
So it's probably a server setup issue.
Make sure MC can create, rename, and edit files in that directory.

No it's not a server setup issue. As I said, Every other application I use can update all the tags on those files from my desktop and the server setup has not changed since v9 of MediaCenter where it worked. Something in v10 has changed the way tagging works.
