Title: Nomad IIc problem
Post by: miked on June 05, 2004, 02:35:29 pm
Transferring to Nomad IIc
Empty 64Mb external card, 1.4Mb free on internal

I queue up 19 files to be sent to my nomad IIc ( the only handheld plugin).
Open "Handheld Player" in Action Window
Drag and drop files into window
The transfer is doing a convert from MP3 VBR standard quality to MP3 CBR 128K.

Mediacenter estimates I have 950K free.  After converting the first file I get an error message "Available size exceeded. File transfer cancelled".
I click OK, it then starts converting the 2nd file and gives me the same error message, and the 3rd, 4th, 5th etc
After 19 error messages nothing got transfered.

Drag the same files onto "Drives & devices -> Nomad II -> External" and all the files EXCEPT the 19th get transferred correctly to the Nomad, the 19th gives a correct "Available size exceeded" error.

Nomad plugin 9.0.11
Latest Nomad drives ( downloaded today)

Different code paths ?

Mike,

When you drop the files on the Action Window, they transfer to the default location on the Nomad which is the internal memory. If you want to choose where the files are to go (i.e. to the external card) you must drag and drop them.

If that is the correct behaviour, why does the AW show that I have approx 60MB free when I start dragging files onto it?   When in fact I only have less than 1MB of internal memory free.

Because the AW is showing you the total available memory for the player (internal and external).  This is appropriate because you can drag and drop files on either memory type and send them via the AW. One solution would be for me to modify the plugin so that as the files are sent, if the internal memory is full, I could offer to send the files to external memory. I could also make it so that it does this automatically, but users may be confused by the fact that their files end up in places where they do not expect.

Steve,  I think the current AW is confusing then.  If all it ever able to use is the internal memory, then that's what it should show as the available memory.

Some sort of pop-up like you suggested "Use External Memory" would be ideal, that way people get what they
want, their files copied to the player, in a simple way

Normally I use "Devices -> Nomad II" section to send files to my player. I tried the AW again because I got the impression that your (J River) preferred way to take actions was using the AW. I'm happy to continue using the "Devices"  option now I know the limitations of AW

Tonight there will be a new Nomad II plugin which will include this feature.

Thanks Steve.  I'll test it over the weekend and report back.

Steve I've had a play.  It''s much more intuitive to be prompted to use the external memory :D

However, you ask for every file. ::)

Could you make it so that the "yes" answer is for all remaining files.  My reasoning is that the user has queued up all the files so you know they want them on the Nomad.  Internal memory must be full so if the user answers "yes" to use the external memory once, it is safe to assume "yes" for all the remaining files.

Does that make sense?

The alternative would be a 3rd button "Yes to All"
Thanks Steve

Mike
Note to self, don't test with almost flat battery, lots of strange transfer errors and wasted time ;D

Mike,

It should not ask for every file. I forgot you were doing file conversions which would cause this to happen. I will correct this on Monday.

Thanks,

Steve

OK Steve, I'll try the new version when you're done.
I haven't tried Volume normalizing, I don't know if that will have the same problems as conversion does.

Mike,

This is fixed in Plugin 9.0.13 which should be posted later today.

Thanks,

Thanks Steve, it worked beautifully, it even pointed out I was downloading a duplicate file ( something I hadn't seen before)

I think I've exhausted the issues with the Nomad II, next on my agenda is Theatre View, which I think is Matt's, so you're safe   ;D

Thanks again

Mike
