Can I make use my standard IRDA USB Dongle (Sigmatel) as remote control for Media Center? How?
Thanks.

There is a plugin for Girder that allows it to use a standard IrDA dongle for receiving remote signals. It's not officially supported, but you could give it a try.

I'm already interested by something like that, I have a sitecom one
( http://www.sitecom.com/products_info.php?product_id=28&grp_id=1 )
and none of the standart plugins i tried several months ago were able to make it work... :(
So with some tweeking you can make it work paste a note here... ;)

On the girder site you can read :
"...IrDA Devices are not suitable for remote control purposes...There is a slim chance that your IrDA device will work with Girder 3.0."
The link they provide for the plugin is broken, but this one should work :
http://users.skynet.be/johnny666/Infos/Ir/Girder/IrDA.dll
(There's a page in french related to it : http://users.skynet.be/johnny666/Infos/Ir/Girder/Girder-irda.htm
This plugin works only with girder 3.0 (not 3.2 or 3.3), I'll try but I'm septical...

So, does it work? ?
I search everywhere but cannot found Girder v3.0.
Can someone point me the URL?
Thanks.

Girder 3.0 is no longer available for download. When Girder went from free to shareware/trialware (a move I have no problems with - it's well deserved) all older versions were taken down. Anyway, using IRDA is not gonna work reliably, you might as well get a cheap CIR (consumer IR) receiver of some type. Period.

I looked into this quite a while ago before buying an IRMan (serial port version). Apparently, a standard IRda port is not as sensitive as a "proper" IR remote receiver, or it uses a slightly different wavelength or some such.
I could not get remote stuff working reliably in any way using Girder 3.
I gave in and spent the bucks on the IRman...
