Title: Weird file type .mpv2
Post by: AsparaGus on June 24, 2004, 07:08:50 pm
OK, it isn't so weird. WMP recognizes it as a .mpg, but Media Center doesn't.

Though a truncated .mpe is recognized as a .mpeg in disguise.

Is there a fix to get Media Center to recognize this peculiar extension or do I need to rename all the files to the older (and more familiar) .mpg usage?

Side query: Is this naming convention something new in the works to distinguish mpeg Version 1 and Version 2? It appears to come from a British source or perhaps European origins.

It's not new, it's just another extension for MPEG Audio layer 2.  Is it being used for a video file?
