Title: Burning Ouestion?
Post by: snapperocks on June 24, 2004, 07:28:37 pm
Can Media Center 10 add to data that already exists on a CDR RW disc?
If so, how do I do this?

I actually thought that MC didn't close the CD.  Sorry, I'm just adding to the confusion :-[

Data CD's are left open (the session is closed, however)...

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=20739;start=msg144778#msg144778

and audio CD's are always closed. It may not honor sessions made by other progs (ie RecordNowMax). I've run into this, failure to erase some RW's, and problems with my SlimX reading a data CD produced by MC (on last burn the SlimX could read 45 of 111 files vs 111 of 111 with RNM) enough times that I avoid MC for data burns.

Which slimX model do you have?

iMP 350

I'll try again with 149. Failure to read all files prob was 2 months ago but I haven't seen any changes noted in release notes in regards to burning.

On B149 with Yamaha...

Did a fresh data burn with 110 mp3's on an RW that had been fully erased (vs quick). Same deal...SlimX 350 see's 46 of 110 tracks. Though 110 files were burnt, MC's progress line in the AW burn dialog stopped at File 109 of 110 (100%)...and above that said "Track following error". Using default ISO V1 w/ Joliet mode.

Same result w/ Sony except there was no "Track following errror"

Tried again w/ Sony and fresh RW...same result (SlimX reads 46 files)

I also stopped using MC to burn mp3 CD's because my DVD player had problems navigating the CD.

I've used 3 other burning apps and only had this problem with MC.

When you burned successfully with RNM, were you telling it to close the disk or not? I'm wondering if there is a problem with some devices not handling multi-session disks: I noticed there was a firmware upgrade available for the slimx 350 that allows enabling multi-session disks.
If that's the case, we'll have to make multi-session optional in MC.

Edit: looking at your previous post it looks like you did not close the disk with RNM.

Edit 2: Have you done the firmware upgrade I mentioned? I'm just wondering because if that fixes the problem, it probably wouldn't make sense for me to obtain the currently available slimx 550 to try to reproduce the problem.

Which DVD player model is having problems with MC burned data disks? I'd like to get one and test it out.

Thanks,
John T.

JT,

I have RNM close the sessions but leave disk open. Yes...I have multisession turned off on 350 (using 2.3 ver of firmware which is latest US version and doesn't support ogg...darn it). I generally do not multisession and these MC (and RNM) disks have always been single's. In another MC burn I tried, playlist had 40 entries, 350 see's 15. No filename is longer than 70 chars. My Yamaha is having troubles with RW's of late, so I have been using the Sony. Thanks for looking into this.

Thanks for the info. I'll test it out when I receive the slimx 550.
