Title: MC cannot read a disc it burned?
Post by: JustinChase on June 25, 2004, 11:07:22 am
I burned a disc a while back, and it got pretty scratched.  It still plays, but skips some.  I do not still have the list of songs for this disc in my library, so I tried to get the track listing off the disc itself, so I could reburn it.  Unfortunately, it's not coming up.

Am i doing something wrong?  I thought I told MC to burn track info to every disc I've ever burned.

Any ideas?

Check with another app to see if CD text is on the CD, eg. EAC.

Neither iTunes nor Windows MP can provide any track info.

I always ask MC to add this info to any discs I burn.  Why would it not be available?

I don't think so.  All programs report the right number of tracks and durations, just no title info.  I suppose it's possible, but I think very unlikely.

Don't get mad at me, but I just find this thread kind of funny.  :D

Loosely paraphrasing, "I have a badly damaged CD, but MC won't read it.  What's wrong with MC and why won't it read it?"  Um... maybe because it's damaged? *chuckle*

Seriously, though, you said you just want to get the track listing so you could reburn it, and then you later said that "all programs" (assuming you meant "all other programs") read the track listing just fine.  So.... what's the problem?

Edit:  Oh, I missed the part that even other programs fail to show the titles.  Sorry.

Let me try to restate.

The disc is a little scratched, and only skips on one friends car player.  It plays fine on mine.  I just thought I'd do him a favor and make him a new copy.

The scratches are not the problem.  The problem is that the track info that MC should have burned on the disc is not on the disc.  I had no idea the MC was not adding this information to burned discs, and I'm just trying to find a way to either get the missing info off the disc, or at least figure out why MC is not doing what I thought it should do.

I'll probably just throw away the disc, and my friend will be out of luck. Oh well.

Can anyone verify whether or not MC should be adding this information to burned discs, or do I need to find a different program to burn my CDs?

Well, in your initial post, you stated that the disc was pretty scratched, and now you are stating that it is a little scratched.  :-\  Obviously, this changes matters quite a bit, but hopefully you can understand why I thought it was a little amusing before you clarified things.  :P

MC should write CD-Text if your drive supports it and you have it enabled in MC's CD Burning options.

Maybe try another disc to see if the option was off, if it's because of the scratches, or if something else is up.

It is unlikely that you could not read CD text because a CD was scratched.

I verified the option to "Write CD-Text" is in fact checked.  I don't know what else I can try.  It appears that MC just did not write the text info.

Oh well, I'll burn a new disc later and see if it's on that one, if not, I have a bug, I guess.
