Title: Streamzap PC Remote Control
Post by: FrankL on June 25, 2004, 11:05:50 pm
Does anyone know if the Streamzap PC Remote Control works with Media Center?

Or does anyone know of a better remote for my PC?

Streamzap does support MC10. http://www.streamzap.com/products/pcremote/help/jrivermc.html (http://www.streamzap.com/products/pcremote/help/jrivermc.html)

The Streamzap works fine for the basic functions they list in the link.  If you want more control then there are other solutions available but I haven't tried them.

Yes, the streamzap supports Media Center, but I didn't find it all that useful.  The program had to be in "focus" for you to control it.

I used my streamzap with girder, basically using it as just an IR receiver and then having girder execute mjextman commands.  It worked very well for about a year.

Then suddenly it started not working well, and I'd have to reboot often to get it working again.  I have no idea why.  Their support was great, they even sent me a new reciever to try, but that didn't help.  I suspect something in MY computer was interacting badly with their driver, who knows.

I got an IRMan and now all is well again.  The streamzap is USB and the IRman is SERIAL, but I got a SERIAL to USB converter so now the IRMan is USB too.  (on a 60ft usb cable).
