Title: Media Center 11.0.19 Alpha (NOT RECOMMENDED)
Post by: Matt on July 06, 2004, 04:38:28 pm
We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house.  Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

This is the second build after major changes to allow guest users and side-by-side installs of MC.  You will lose your settings.  Some plugins will not work.  Side-by-side installs are not functioning yet.  There may still be tools in the patient.  Please wait a few builds if you're not ready for problems.

Please uninstall builds prior to MC 11.0.12 before installing. (no need to uninstall 11.0.12)  As always, backup your library.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110019.exe

11.0.19 (7/6/04)

1. Fixed: Scrolling, then double-clicking a file could cause the scroll position to be lost.
2. Fixed: Some settings could not be changed. (Standard View skin, etc.)
3. Changed: Database import and update shows summary duration in a better format for long durations.
4. Fixed: Package installer would fail when installing the MP3 encoder, CD Baby, and other items.
5. Changed: Switched to roaming application data folder instead of non-roaming folder.  (make sure library is in [User Name]\Application Data\J River instead of [User Name]\Local Settings\Application Data\J River)
6. Fixed: Uninstaller did not work with new file and settings layout introduced in 11.0.12.
7. NEW: Import / update system allows custom directories to be excluded.
8. Changed: Playlists inside of Playlist Groups could not be shown as a file list with Theater View.

This version is still hijacking my task bar.  In fact, every version I can remember does this.  I reported it a number of times several months ago, but gave up.  This really needs to be fixed - it's one of the most annoying things that a program can do.

If you need any information that I can provide, let me know.

Dragyn,
I split your posts and Matt's replies out to a new thread, but I missed a couple here.

Makes more sence now,

Thanks

Made some user fields for my files (semicolon delimited). These values were stored in the tag. Reimported my library at the time (afterwards) and these fields were not imported (user field did not exist).

Recreated field name and updated the library (from tags). The tags were correct and displayed fine in the Action Window but were N/A in the panes. Refresh would not work. Going from Playing Now and back to the view scheme did not work.

I don't know if a restart would have just worked but I cleared the cache directory and now they show up in the panes. This was not a problem with v10 that I know of. Could be the caching and reupdating the library from the tags.

MC crashes on import .. every time ...

Divide and conquer.  Import half at a time until you find the file.  Then we'd like to have it.

1- Cannot import/install PlugIns (they do not show up)

2- Cannot customize Toolbars (Icons do not appear on toolbar)

Version 11.0.19 is installing to a default location instead of the previous V11.0.18 one.

Toolbars wont customise, MRU is only showing 1 last used item instead of the 6 set in registry.

For safety reasons I would like to have the Library Backup folder on another drive.

Is it possible to specify a default folder for Library Backups under Options>File Location?

MRU change will hold if done after this install (mine was and works properly)

Ur right, it did.
import process is scanning drives it is not told to.

its scanning my d drive (my documents) when its been told to only scan one folder on the m drive.

Album analyzer seems to be broken. All of my audio files are shown as "Single artist (incomplete)".

Edit: Flushing my library and reimporting all the files solved the problem so it looks like the problem is only happening when using a library with data from previous builds...

I don't seem to be able to display as a "list" in theater view with this beta.

Also G-Force Gold is still broken / not able to detect a valid media player.

Later.

Why is it so slow?  It shouldn't take more than a few minutes with a fast drive.

I can't reproduce.

This should only happen in the filename field, since '?' isn't a valid filename character.

Third party plugins won't work for a while.  They may need to be updated for the new architecture, but it's too early to say for sure.

Matt

if i have media of greatly differing durations its confusing to have the numbers left aligned. i'd prefer it to be right aligned then i could see all the seconds in line / the minutes in line / and the hours etc. this would make it much quicker for me to visually scan for something.

I hope that plugins do not need to be updated.  Any idea when they will be working?  I miss G-Force Gold!

I ripped some songs into MP3 files,

I went to the rip directory in MC's tree,

I next imported, tagged, added cover art, and renamed the files using the filename and directory templates to rename and relocate the files into the proper library folders,

However, the files remain in the rip folder and still show as not having yet been imported, and the cover art is gone and tags were not actually saved either.

at what size does the file size display flip from MB to GB. i have a file that is 1016.3MB. Why not just write it as 1.0GB.

It's base 2, so there are 1024 MB in a GB.

Silly?  Yeah, this coming from a guy who uses a cross-eyed, bouncing mouse as his AV.  ::)  :P  ;D

Seriously, though, since 1016.3 MB does not equal 1.0 GB, no doubt there would be a rash of complaints--mine included--about MC being inaccurate in its size estimations if they changed it.
