Title: Media Center 11.0.23 Alpha
Post by: Matt on July 12, 2004, 05:12:11 pm
We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house.  Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins will not work yet.

Please uninstall builds prior to MC 11.0.12 before installing. (no need to uninstall 11.0.12)  As always, backup your library.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110023.exe

11.0.23 (7/12/04)

1. Fixed: Using Move Up / Move Down in Customize Current View's sort list could cause an error in some cases.
2. Fixed: Audio Analysis didn't properly show analysis columns.
3. NEW: Thumbnail text templates can be multiple lines. (customizable per view)
4. Fixed: Thumbnail text color wouldn't properly change when a file was playing vs. not playing.
5. Changed: Thumbnail text entry has helper dropdown next to it.
6. NEW: Added "Revert To Default Presets" command to preset controls. (used in file naming, library tools, thumb text, etc.)
7. Fixed: In some cases, auto-complete tag comboboxes would empty while typing.
8. Changed: Interface plugins installed for Media Center 9.1 / 10 will also show up in Media Center 11.

With all these templates (tile view, thumbnails, smartlists, others??) we need a good way to share what we are using.

I feel like there is a whole bunch of power that is not being tapped.

JimH has tried to tap into this by linking a smartlist thread to the FAQ but that hasn't been touched and really only contains a few smartlists with the string to use.

Any plans to make all this customization more shareable?  Maybe it's own forum.....

Well, I've decided to give this bird a try.

Import Media... Search for Files & Update Library is not working correctly.  When I make a folder to search such as C:\Audio-Video\Music\CD (my music folders) a lot of other folders are searched but not the one I added.  The only way I can add my music files is to search the whole computer which takes a very long time as I have over 250,000 various audio-video files on the computer most of which I do not want in MC.

There is no Search Sub-folders check box to tell MC to import all files from the current folder on down.

Do not have any choice as to where MC 11 is installed, it automatically goes into J River\Media Center 11.  That is not where I want it.  I want it under simply... Media Center

It works just as MC 10.

Choose "Advanced" on the first screen of setup.

Thanks Matt;

That screen looks like so many others that defaults to No thanks, do not install. You usually have to click on the top radio button to select ok to install.

I was automatically clicking on the top button from habit & did not notice the Advanced, Custom Install.

I wonder if maybe it should be a separate screen like most other programs to remove any possible confusion ?

Do view scheme panes automatically resize columns now?  Is there an option to stop this?  Some of my view schemes I would prefer to have fixed width columns...  seeing the size jump round while searching etc looks a bit odd...

Don't seem to be able to connect to Media Server using this build of 11.

When checking options in Media Server window, the Library tab shows no library, and if you try to click the OK button, you get a dialog saying "The parameter is incorrect".

The Media Server still runs however, and is seen when you auto search, but you can't connect to it.

In the status on Server end:

07/13/04 20:51:16 - request for library
07/13/04 20:51:16 - could not open <C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\MJ Server Library.zip>
07/13/04 20:51:16 - sending 404
07/13/04 20:51:16 - sharing thread exiting

At Client end:

Failed to connect to a server
Reason: Not Found
URL: http://192.168.0.10:8880/GetLibrary

Same version at both ends...

Now I've successfully upgraded to MC11 which (and where) directories in MC11 need to be backed up?

I wanna get the images and the actual DB, is there anything else?

Thanks!

If you try and store Image in Tag,

Right click
Image
Store Cover Art in file.

This only works if you are going 1 at a time.

Please give the exact listing you see in the folder list of the import dialog.

Also, how do you determine that other folders are being searched?

By default, library backups automatically happen on Import.

If you're doing some manual backup scheme, it'd be just like MC 10.  The only difference is that the database defaults to a new location.

"Please give the exact listing you see in the folder list of the import dialog."

The folder I always use for my music is...  C:\audio-Video\Music\CD. When I run a search, it completes in about 2 seconds & finds zero files. I think it is searching only the root & not the sub-folders.  It always worked in MC10 without any problem.

"Also, how do you determine that other folders are being searched?"

Because I could see the other folders being searched as the search is underway but not the one I added in the Search box.

I have since un-installed MC11 & re-installed it into the folder of my choice.  This time I did not allow it to search my computer at all.  Instead, I used the Import command & deleted the Entire Computer statement.  I then added C\:Audio-Video\Music\CD to the Search box then did the search which came up empty.

I then added Entire Computer back & re-did the search; this time I got a lot of hits but none of the files under C\:Audio-Video\Music\CD showed up.

I have tried adding a single artist to the Search but it will not import anything.

I have tried adding a single album to the Search but it will not import anything.

I don't understand why all my files (including the C\:Audio-Video\Music\CD files showed up on the very first install of MC11 which I let automatically search for all files but when I do it manually it does not see the C\:Audio-Video\Music\CD files at all.

It looks like the Manual Import is not working at all.

Sooo... something is very wrong.

This is the first "release" that doesn't say anything about side-by-side installs.  I don't know if this means that it is working or is not possible?

Hi cncb;

Don't think you can do a side-by-side install as I reacall that yesterday Jim said to do a complete un-install of any prior MC before instalingl this version of MC11.

I have MC 10 and MC 11 installed side by side.  Both are working fine...

Adam

P.S. Any answer on the resizing issue listed above??  It seems to only happen when using calculated fields if that helps.  I have no resizing options set.  If I have 4 columns none of which are calculated, all 4 columns are an equal width.  Change one to a calculate field and the claculated field takes up more space than the other fields meaning they are smaller.

I have the upper half of the media library (what's this area called again?) divided in half, as such:

artist  | artist - album [year]

If I change the year of an album in the tag info box, the change is not reflected in the upper half of the media library, even after restarting the program.  The old info remains (e.g. connells - fun & games [2004]), and clicking on the album gives a "no files - click here to import files" message. Also, the corrected album info (e.g. connells - fun & games [1989]) does not show up in the right-hand (artist - album [year]) box, although the the individual files are present and the year listed correctly in the lower half of the media library when the artist is selected in the upper left-hand box (artist).

Best of luck making sense of all that.

NOTE: reimporting the files does eliminate the incorrect info, and update the changed files.

Side-by-side installs aren't recommended.  If both are installed, uninstalling one will goof the other up.

Doc,

Hidden and system folders aren't currently imported.  Check the properties of C:\Audio-Video\Music\CD.  Also, make sure you have "C:\" instead of "C\:".  (maybe just a typo on Interact)

Thanks.

The folder is neither hidden or a system filder; I made it myself & it has always worked just fine in all other versions of MJ 7, 8, MC 9 & 10 but not 11.

Yes, I made a typo.  I used the Add, Custom Folder & searched for the folder which MC11 added as C:\Audio-Video\Music\CD so it is listed correctly.

What about G-Force? When I try to install version 2.6.7. it says no supported media players were detected.

The current zone (when using the [Zone] keyword) does not update in Theater View when toggling zones.  The only way to get it to update properly is by exiting Theater View and then going back in.  It would also be nice for the Now Playing list to update automatically when toggling zones (although this will update properly if you move to a different screen within Theater View and then go back to Now Playing).

When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins will not work yet.

I'm sorry if this is obtuse, but is upgrading actually required at this point?  I was under the impression that you have added support for side-by-side installations.  Yes?  No?  Maybe?

Also, if you toggle zones in Theater View you cannot return to standard view using the ESC key.  You must either right-click and choose Close Display or return to the zone that you entered Theater View in (and then the ESC key works again).
